Replacement Screen Availability
« on: December 10, 2012, 08:45:56 AM »
Anyone know if/when replacement screens are likely to be available?  I still have a broken nexus I would like to repair at some point.

Sending back cost more than buying a new one (which I have done) so that is not an option, but would like to repair the damaged one at some point.

thanks

Sending back costs more than a new one? How is that possible? How much does it cost to have it repaired? Are they insane?

I have seen dead Nexus's on CL and EBay in the 75 to 100 dollar range Maybe you could cannibalize one?

Just saw a post somewhere. 16gig nexus cracked screen fixed by Asus.
85 parts 60 labor 10 shipping. I see what you mean.

I live in UK so prices are in pounds, but I think the same principle in USA.

My Nexus cost £199.  I was quoted by the store £180 for screen fix.  So I just got a new one.   Nexus since dropped to £149, so cost MORE to replace screen than get a new one now.

Also, I called ASUS support and they refused to give me a price.  They said it would be (roughly, can't recall exact numbers) £50 + shipping just to look at it.  Cost to fix (labour and parts) would be added, but they had "no idea" what the final price would be.

Is there still no news on a cheaper way to replace screen?

My third Nexus now has a broken screen.  Small knock on the side and an almost invisible crack has rendered it useless.  I now have 2 16GB Nexus bricks!  £400 and nowt to show for it.

Have you checked eBay, to see if you could find one that is being sold for parts, that has a good screen?
