Multiple wifi SSID connections
« on: January 22, 2013, 10:19:53 AM »
Hi there,

I have multiple wifi SSID's in my area that transmit simultaneously that I like to connect to.

In android, how do I tell my N7 which one I would like to preferentially connect to, but still save the login info for the other SSID's?

For example, I have the SSID's Loudnet and Loudnet-Media.  I would like to connect to Loudnet 90% of the time, but when I'm streaming media I would like to switch and connect to Loudnet-Media (I realize I would have to do this manually).  How can I tell Android, connect to Loudnet automatically, but if I want to switch to the other one, let me, without asking for my password again.

Basically, I'm wanting to rank the SSID's like you can in Windows 7.

Hopefully that makes sense.

Thanks!

I don't think there is a way to specify the preferred network.  It seems to only give preference to whichever SSID has the strongest signal.

Stroll in is correct that Android gives preference to the strongest signal however Android does remember multiple passwords so connecting to a specified SSID does not require reentry of a password.

In Wi-Fi advanced settings Network notification will notify you in the statusbar of open networks but once you've selected your SSID of choice, whether it'll stay connected to that SSID when it detects a stronger signal from another source and has it's password stored, I am unsure?

If not, there must be an app for that...

This is my problem. This question has more to do with my wife's Motorola Xoom, we have 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz SSIDs. I want her to connect to the 2.4 GHz when she's just browsing, but when I'm using Netflix on her Xoom I want to use 5 GHz.  However it seems to switch back and forth by itself, so it's one or the other.

Honestly I'm not sure but I would have thought there was an app that could do this?

It could be possible using NFC Tags and an app like AnyTAG NFC Launcher??

could try this app    WiFI Connector "Switch among your favorite networks with a single tap by using the WiFi Network Switcher widget."

surely there are others but that's the first I found

Once your password is saved you  should be good to go. If you want to switch accounts just tap it manually. Default is best connection.
