Navigation Buttons NOT Showing Up Anymore?
« on: December 14, 2012, 04:31:42 PM »
The three navigation buttons (return, home, recent?) on the bottom of the screen won't show up anymore.... I couldn't return to home if I open one App. The only thing I can do is power off and power on again to stop the App.  :(
Tried Reset (Factory Reset), still can't see those 3 buttons.

Any suggestion?? Thanks

(Bought on Thanksgiving, less than 3 weeks old...)

The nav buttons are a part of the launcher app. Try installing a third party launcher from Google play and report your findings.

I think there's a link to the launcher but if I remember rightly activating the Nav bar in CM10 or AOKP on my S2 involved a system UI restart...

OP, try force closing the system UI...

EDIT: You haven't installed any apps to do this or any lines to the build.prop have you??

Thank you for your suggestion~
Installed free app "Button Savior" from play store, only "Home" "Camera" and "Volume  +/- " buttons work, not "Back" "search" and others. (Better than nothing! At least I can go "Home" now....)

the App said: Requires root for full function. Some keys can still work without root.

Don't know how to "root"  :-[

No..... I don't think it "rooted", (don't know how to...)  the speed became very slow after installed "Button Savior", so I uninstalled it already.

Now back to no navigation bar, no status bar condition again...

Called Nexus & help line,  was suggested to return it back to Asus...

Not sure whether force stopping the System UI will work but...

Settings> Apps> All> System UI> Force stop...

It  sounds like you've activated the expanded desktop.   isn't that a feature of 4.2.1 that you can toggle on/off?

I thought that was a custom ROM feature, a la CM10, Paranoid Android or any other CM based ROM?

I stand corrected, J. Expanded desktop is a custom ROM feature, which predates 4.2. I guess the OP's only option now is restoring a factory image.

I'm not the lowest of the low, but I am the slowest of the slow. 49.6 mpg avg for 38k miles in non-hybrid Scion xB

I was trying to avoid the suggestion of flashing the factory image as the OP has zero experience with this side of Android.
It's certainly less hassle than sending the N7 back to Asus but not everybody wants the knowhow, some are quite happy in their knowledge of use of these devices and don't want to learn which I respect....

I'll leave the decision to the OP?
