Error Copying File Windows XP
« on: December 27, 2012, 03:27:45 PM »
Hi, just purchased a Nexus 7 and have tried to copy over some Movies and Music Tracks but this device is not allowing me to. Running Windows XP.

The error message is: Cannot Copy: "": The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected.

I've looked through Google for possible solutions but have not come across one yet.

Can any one help!!

Welcome to the forums. Please give some more information as far as how are you connected and such. Are you able to see your file system? Is there a music folder visible, what format is your music..  vidz.
Thanks

Hi, thanks for the reply and welcome.

I'm using the standard USB Lead supplied with the Nexus.
The Nexus Device appears as a little "PDA" Symbol when connected to the PC. I can see all the folders e.g. Music, Videos but cannot drag and drop anything.
Music is MP3 Format
Movies are avi and few in H.264

Any ideas? I read about a driver for Windows XP but not been able to get my head around that.

Go to Asus support for the Nexus 7 and select Android as the OS and download the driver from Here and extract the zip file and remember the location. In XP go to Device Manager and delete Nexus PDA device if listed. Search for new devices and it should detect it again. Select load driver from specific location and choose the extracted files from Asus. You should then have a MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) device listed for your Nexus 7 and you should be able to copy your music and videos to you Nexus 7.

Thanks Prime. I wish I could remember setting up my Nexus. I don't think I connected to my XP /PC until I was ready to root with Wugs. I think I used his drivers.

I downloaded the driver.
Extracted it in my documents.
Connected nexus.
Chose location to find driver & installed it.
Then error message appears that hardware may not work properly.
No icon appears for nexus.
I tried the USB debugging & that does not work either.

So lost right now. Where's the plug & play option  ::)

On your Nexus 7 did you check Settings - Storage - Tap 3 dots at the upper right - tap USB computer connections - check MTP ?

I think Prime might have given you the golden nugget.. if not I would delete all the pertinent drivers and try and  start fresh.
