More "after rooting" advice?
« on: January 05, 2013, 12:17:14 PM »
Now that I have rooted (thanks to the courage I got from this forum) I'm planning on downloading "Titanium".
In your opinion, is the paid for version much better then the free one?
Also, I have downloaded "Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper".  The next time when there is an OS update, do I need to run this app.  before updating?
Again, thanks to such a helpful forum!!

IMO Titanium pro is better. Its worth it just for the ability to recover your apps in one batch as opposed to one by one.
Root keeper will backuo and save your SU binary and enable you to keep root in case of an OTA. I would run it now for safe keeping. Great app.

I use the pro Titanium but it's personal choice really, if your going to use it regularly then yes... Plus it's a little something for the developers hard work...

As bjs said, run Voodoo now and it's backed up ready.

Definitely titanium pro.

I would be careful with ROM toolbox. There are some great features, but make sure you have a nandroid before making any changes with that app.

Not a hijack just part of the warning that Loocid brought to light. I always have used the stock ROM. I use the app for other tools. I have heard that with some phones RT can be a prob..never with the Nexus though. What are some of the issues?

I wouldn't use the boot animations or boot logo changer. They are not compatible and can cause your device to lock up!

Hummm, I LOVE my Tesla 'energy' boot loader!  It's a groove everytime I boot up.  I don't seem to notice any degregation in performance...

They potentially can cause issues. They either work or they don't. Its always taking chances.

Great info here .. Good for a beginner too. Keeps from stepping in quicksand.
So AnK..careful with RT. I use it for some of its tools. It has helped me in the past and I now realize I have been lucky that I haven't gone too far with it. I'm backed up and ready but its still a hassle when you go down in flames. It is a real comprehensive app and apparently can be a problem if you hit the whammy button. Lol.

Thanks to everybody for the good advice.
I will stay with the Stock Rom for now...
Have downloaded Titanium free first, then uninstalled and purchased the Pro version.  My problem at this point is that the icon for Titanium Pro is missing.
Do I have to keep the free edition and the Pro Version to get the icon?
In the meantime I also ran the Voodoo Rootkeeper.  I guess that's all that is needed for now until the next Jellybean update?
One last question...Is it best to keep USB Debugging checked?
Thanks to all for answering my many questions so patiently.

You do need to keep the free version.  When you purchase the pro version, there is no icon.  It only downloads the licence plugin for the free version, kind of like an upgrade.

With voodoo, just make sure all the boxes are checked and you are good.

As far as USB Debugging, I always keep it checked.  It just makes it easier next time I decide to mod something or run a utility.  There's no real need to turn it off unless you are plugging into unknown machines.

Thank you for your advice, loociddreemr, about Voodoo and USB Debugging.
Also, yes I have the Titanium Icon back. Thanks!!
