Problem with 4.3 update SOLVED
« on: July 26, 2013, 07:47:17 AM »
I update my N7 using Wug's Tool Kit with factory zip file. It updated fine and all applications seem to work
I lost root and use the Toolkit to root it. Voodo rootkeeper confirms that it is rooted, Titanium Pro says that it is not rooted

The problem is that I can not see my flash drive via OTG cable when using Stickmount
I wonder if Stickmount works with 4.3
I install Nexus Media Importer, it reads the flash drive but cannot play any movie
================
Update info
I need to Manually root the N7 since both Wugfresh & Skip Toolbox can not root it for 4.3
Can someone spoon-fed me on hot to manually root the N7 or lead me to such instructions
As I am not technically good, I appreciate the spoon-fed method

Appreciate any advice how to solve this issue
Thanks in advance

====
Problem Solved

I use the CF-Auto-Root-grouper-nakasi-nexus7 from Chainfire and was able to re-root the N7
Stickmount now recognizes the OTG flash drive

Cool.  Your post is almost a DIY for doing the upgrade.

Root is broken on 4.3 anyway, Google changed something in Android with 4.3 that causes problems. I have updated my Nexus 4 (root not so important) but not my Nexus 7 as I rely on root for Stickmount....

I've updated my rooted Nexus 10 via OTA but root is not there.

Will try ADB sideloading tomorrow as I can't get into TWRP recovery.

As I said CBers, Voodoo doesn't work with 4.3 because of security changes Google have made in this iteration of Android. You need to flash the TWRP recovery image via Fastboot or a Toolkit and then flash the updated SuperSU zip Chainfire released.

Root is broken in 4.3?

That can be a bummer. Maybe I should hold off on upgrading when I get the notice.

The version of SuperSU that was released, has since been superceded.

So do I need to still flash 1.43 then update again afterwards?

Just did my Nexus 10 using WugFresh toolkit.

Manually downloaded TWRP (v2.6.0.0) & SuperSU v1.43 zip.

Changed Recovery Image to v2.6.0.0.

Installed TWRP via toolkit (ROOT button) then flashed SuperSU zip when TWRP started up.

All rooted again  8)

Cool glad you sorted it CBers, SuperSU is on 1.45 now but that'll update from the Play store. I'm waiting for Koush to fix his Superuser because this SuperSU is really hacky in achieving its goal.

I updated to 4.3 from google's developer images, and lost root.  I used dominic's reference to chainfire's simple root method.  So, I'm rooted with 4.3.  It'll take some getting used to.  Stickmount recognized my USB drive, & I'm restoring my Titanium BU directory now.

Getting used to what?

Not much difference in 4.3 :-)

I see a number of potential problems.  I can see files on my OTG USB drive, but I can't copy them successfully.  Chainfire's rooting method doesn't support *insecure state, which cripples file push/pulls.   It also doesn't support remounts.  So, it looks like reinstalling my Titanium backup or my CWM Nandroid backup files is going to be a PITA.

*Edited to change secure to insecure.

Bird, Transfer your nandroid through your PC and MTP. I transferred my nandroids that way with no problems.

Thanks for the warning about OTG, I didn't know that so won't be updating my 7 anytime soon.
