NEXUS 7 FOR 9 YEAR OLD...... SECURITY
« on: September 11, 2013, 08:22:19 AM »
Hi All
Newbie so be gentle..lol

Ive had the old nexus for a year.. great machine

Just upgraded to the new nexus 7 2 and bought one for my sons 9th birthday.

I am happy to share my google play account with him... (after all, if he wants to buy anything he has to ask me to input my password)..,.. This is no problem...

But, how can I stop my gmail and google+ account syncing to his nexus 7.
I am seeking a solution that he cant just turn back on....

I am aware that you can set up a limited second user on the nexus that will stop email syncing, but it will also block him from downloading free apps...

Any help would be very gratefully recieved.....

In settings, accounts you can designate what Google syncs.

Also you can add a second Google account which can be set to sync with Gmail, if you want your son to have his own email or calendar and contacts.

Or use the restricted profiles. I let my young girls use my 1st gen Nexus 7 and they have a restricted profile for the which since 4.3 allows you to designate which applications other users have access too.

You'd be the main user, you'd also need to have a security for your profile enabled whether that be Face unlock, PIN, Password or Pattern lock.

Settings> Users> Add user or Profile> Settings (three sliders to the right of the created profile)...

Here you can edit which applications are available to the user account and for some applications and settings you can you can make changes to those individual apps.

That's the best way I've found and I hope that helps.
