Nexus not turning on. No solutions working so far.
« on: November 05, 2013, 03:06:57 PM »
Last month I used my tablet, and the next day when I went to use it again it was off, and wouldn't turn back on. I tried every variation of letting it charge, unplugging, replugging, holding power button down along with holding power and one or both volume buttons, etc. I eventually figured it was the battery, so I finally got around to buying a new one. However, it still isn't working. What the heck?! Someone please tell me they know of some fix, or can recommend me something. I really don't want to have to go buy a new tablet.

Have you determined the power supply and USB cord are not faulty? I've heard that when the battery is completely discharged it will not boot enough to charge. Saw where someone connected power directly to the battery to get it to jump start. I'll search for that post. You held the power button for at least 30 seconds, right?

Is it a black screen, or the x. Do you get a beep when connecting to computer. Do you have adb sdk. Is it too late to RMA after replacing battery?

I held it down for 30 seconds with no results, totally black screen with no light or indication that it has power, no beep when plugged into computer, never used adb sdk, and I got the tablet over a year ago so... Not sure what the RMA policy is.

On the off chance the USB jack is damaged, you could try the pogo pins. Search the xda site for the pinout. The middle 2 are audio.

Mentions a battery pull for an hour to make sure the tab is off before charging. Like it's in limbo state where it won't charge because it's not charged.

The loose battery connection, is my guess, mentioned in Matt's link to XDA. Just pop off the back cover and take a look, at this point you don't have much to lose.

Did a battery pull with no luck. And the connection between the battery and the device is secure, so that isn't the issue.

Have you ever gotten it to show the charge icon when plugged into a USB port?

Connect the charger to your Nexus 7, then plug the charger in to an outlet.
Press and hold Power until the device powers on, then immediately press and hold Volume Down (while still pressing Power). You will see the word Start with an arrow drawn around it.
Press Volume down until you find Power off, then press Power to select that option.
When your tablet is off, disconnect the charger, then reconnect it.

You should see a battery on your screen that indicates your tablet is charging.
This would be great if you could get it to power on.

If the screen doesn't turn on or a battery icon does not appear, continue with the following steps:

Plug your Nexus 7 into its original ASUS power adapter using the charger's original USB cable for an hour, ensuring that the power cord is securely connected to the tablet and the power adapter. Also, make sure you're using a functioning power outlet.
After an hour, disconnect the charging cable from your device.
Within 10 seconds of disconnecting the cable, quickly connect the cable again.
Press and hold the Power button for at least 15 seconds to see if the device powers on.

No luck :(
What could possibly even brick my device? I never did anything to it.
