Wireless Charging Whilst Using USB Port

Okay, so I was torrenting a large file to a USB stick connected to my rooted Nexus 7 (FLO) and I knew that it would probably run out of battery before it finished; I tried using my Qi wireless charger but had no luck. Is this normal? Is there any way I can charge whilst using the USB port?

There are Roms for that. Otg +charge. A nas or shared drive on a PC might be easiest, or a WiFi enabled drive.
