VPN and cast connection

I have the 2nd generation Nexus 7 and a Netgear Push,
2tv 3000 for display on my HDTV. Everything works fine until I connect the Nexus 7 to my VPN....then I can't get it to connect to the Push2tv. I need the VPN for Hulu, Netflix, etc. Can anyone help?
