New Nexus 7 General Discussion Topics (2nd Gen) / Re: Is it worth it?
« on: October 18, 2013, 04:18:04 PM »
Remember - there are two Surface systems , the ARM one which is its own subsystem and the surface pro.  MS has dropped the RT name so it is difficult to tell them apart.  You very probably want the one that runs all windows apps.

Tiger Direct has several issues
1.Their refurbs are of dubious quality, some have had good luck, some got junk
2. The rebates are also a little bit iffy.

Nexus 7 General Discussion / Re: Expanding storage

Still another option is to install ownCloud on your home laptop and connect from anywhere.
Owncloud.org

Great for backups to your own computer. Playing games may depend on the speed of the wifi the nexus is connecting with.

If I read the somewhat terse documentation, owncloud runs on an Apache server.

Nexus 7 General Discussion / Expanding storage

Is there any progress on a micro usb memory chip or best way to add storage to the Nexus 7.  Yes, I keep a lot of movies on my tablets.

I have plenty of storage on my 32GB N7, you can't watch lots movies at the same time so I put them on my N7, watch them and delete them... It's called file management...

But hey, each to their own...

What the hell would you store on a device with 128GB of storage??

Movies, and music, this would make it a complete entertainment center for me.

It would be nice if it had a 64 and 128gig option, memory is cheap

Specs surface for alleged low-end $99 Nexus 7 tablet

It’s been rumored for a while that Google (GOOG) and ASUS (2357) are working on a $99 Nexus tablet. Although benchmarks can easily be faked, a new GLBenchmark for a tablet identified as only “ME172V” and reportedly built by ASUS has popped up with specs well below those of the Nexus 7. According to the GLBenchmark, the entry-level Nexus 7 could have a 7-inch display with a 1024 x 600 pixel resolution display, 1GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, a 4270mAh battery and Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean. Interestingly enough, the purported low-end Nexus 7 also has a micro SD card slot, which the original Nexus 7 does not. It’s possible that the entry-level tablet could be an entirely new Nexus product, or even not a Nexus-branded tablet at all. In September, ASUS denied it was working on an entry-level Nexus 7 for Google.

It is the giving up of the sd that kills me, I travel where there is no or slow wifi.  Changing cards to do new sets of movies is a very important option, that and easily looking at my pictures as  I am also a photographer.  The otg cable is a real pain and not very portable.  It would be nice if someone made a case with a very flexible otg that was integrated.

The Lounge: Off Topic Forum / Amazon wipes kindle

http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/2219096/amazon-remotely-wipes-woman-s-kindle?utm_source=Outbrain&utm_medium=Cpc&utm_campaign=Inquirer%252BReferral&WT.mc_is=977=obinsource

ONLINE BOOKSELLER Amazon reportedly has remotely wiped a woman's Kindle and sent her an email recommending that she choose another retailer.
A blog post by Norwegian media commentator Martin Bekkelund claims that a friend of his, also from Norway, is the victim. Amazon has not confirmed the report, but we have asked it to comment.
The blog post says that the woman, identified only as Linn, found that her Kindle and account had been wiped with no warning.
When she approached Amazon to find out why, it did not explain itself very well and recommended that she find another retailer where she might find more satisfaction.
"We have found your account is directly related to another which has been previously closed for abuse of our policies. As such, your Amazon.co.uk account has been closed and any open orders have been cancelled," said the first response.
Linn pushed for more information but didn't get any, and was brushed off instead. "We regret that we have not been able to address your concerns to your satisfaction. Unfortunately, we will not be able to offer any additional insight or action on these matters," she was told. "We wish you luck in locating a retailer better able to meet your needs and will not be able to offer any additional insight or action on these matters."
In the UK the Pirate Party was more sympathetic, saying that this is just the sort of thing we should expect from an industry reliant on digital rights management.
"This highlights the dangers with DRM. When you buy a product with DRM you haven't really bought it because the supplier can take it away from you at any time," said Pirate Party spokesperson Andy Robinson.
"Similarly, when you buy a locked down device such as Amazon's Kindle or Apple's Iphone or Ipad, you're never in control. Let the buyer beware." µ

Again no micro sd port, it will be harder to explain a 10 inch tablet without one.  But we will see.

Is there an app that splits the screen so it will do next song and replay, so you can keep your eyes on the road?
