Suggestions for the best way to transfer bookmarks from the N7 to the new n7.2 - without doing it through Google cloud?

Hurray, hurray, hurray!
Dominic, you always bring me luck! No sooner do you offer to help than I get rooted. The Wugfresh toolkit is wonderful - once the adb was found - everything else went like clockwork. Like magic. I used the latest version of Wugfresh (updated today) and here is what I did differently. I'm writing this so I can remember for the next time and in case it helps someone else. 1. I disabled windows automatic device install 2. I used the Samsung drivers. I had used them before but this time all came together. 3. I noticed that in addition to usb debug that the instructions said to unselect mtp in the usb setting. (it was selected so I unselected it) First time I saw this and maybe that was it? I could not believe it when the toolkit said it found the adb and was connected! After that everything was as smooth as butter. Everything followed perfectly and I'm rooted. Wow! Donation on its way to Wugfresh. Who is he anyway? One person or a team. Terrific job (once I got past the driver Installation. Thank you all who helped. 3

Hi Dominic, we talked last year when I finally rooted my older nexus 7. By the time we talked I had figured out the problem and rooted. (Wish I could remember how!) The trouble I'm having now is rooting the new nexus 7.2 (2013).
Accessing the nexus from the pc is no longer a problem. The link Prime provided works great. The only reason I brought it up was to wonder if maybe that was why Wugfresh toolkit could not find adb to link to my new nexus. For rooting help, we both need a real expert to help us. I need root because many of my important apps won't work fully without it: firewalls, Titanium b/u, nandroid b/u, Stickmount, Rom toolbox utilities, Tasker, lbe security, etc. So I've got to root. Thanks for offering. 4

Worked like a charm. Thanks Prime.
I still have not been able to root my nexus 7.2 using Wugfresh toolkit and I think that is why it cannot find adb on either n7 or n7.2 . Whenever I load Wugfresh drivers I lose the ability to access the nexus and need to use the method you recommended to regain access. The Wugfresh toolkit obviously works for most users but when it doesn't I think it is because the computer can no longer access the nexus 7 and gives the error about not finding adb drivers. Is there a manual way I can root my new nexus 7.2? Is there an expert on rooting in northern Virginia I can physically go to in person? A nexus or android users group? Really frustrated at the amount of wasted time. 5

Thank you.
I found the storage setting and mtp is selected. I know there is another usb setting somewhere and could not find it anywhere which is why I asked. Maybe someone else knows where it is? 6

Thank you. I think the problem I am having may have to do with the windows 7 64 bit computer I am using. What is the os of the computer you are using?

Nexus 7 (2012) and windows 7 pc.
I used to USB connect the two and the nexus 7 would appear as a drive on the pc. I must have changed something (while trying to root my newer nexus 7.2) and now the nexus 7 no longer appears as a drive on the pc. When I usb connect the old nexus 7 it installs its drivers and connects but doesn't appear as a storage device. I've switched usb debug setting both ways with no difference. Is there another setting I am forgetting about that I need to change for the nexus to appear as a drive on the pc? 8

Wanted to add that I now remember I had the same driver problem when I tried to root my nexus 7 2012 with Wugfresh and finally got it rooted with the other toolkit.

New Nexus 7 Root, Hacks, Mods And Development (2nd Gen) / Re: Trouble rooting 7.2« on: August 11, 2013, 07:10:46 PM »Aren't there alternate methods of installing drivers with Wugfresh's toolkit? Try installing the drivers again, or try loading drivers from Skipsoft's (Mark Skippen's) Google Nexus 7 Toolkit.I tried the automatic driver Installation several times before writing to ask for help. No luck. The alternate method said to find the nexus device in device manager and install the drivers from Wugfresh directory. Could find no mention of nexus in dm so that didn't work either. I will wait for skipsoft's toolkit as you and Prime suggest. Thank you both. Jeff 11

New nexus 7.2, with the 2 ota updates. Using Wugfresh toolkit 1.6.8 to root.
Uninstalled drivers and installed new ones. I'm now at step 3 and the toolkit says "adb not found". Tried different usb port, developer debug changes are done but adb remains unfound. What to do? 12

But - it is still possible to use an sdcard even with the older nexus 7. Here's how. Using Stickmount, the proper cable and an inexpensive card reader.
Stickmount is designed to read a flash stick drive, but it will read a sdcard just as well in a card reader. I do it all the time. Not as convenient as a built in slot, but with a short 8 inch cable almost as good. :-) 14

While I'm waiting for my nexus 7.2 to arrive, I thought to ask about rooting. I am aware of the various toolkits, etc. for rooting, but I read 'somewhere' that because of the changes in 4.3 rooting may not be as necessary. Did I misread? Won't it still be necessary to root 4.3 to fully use apps like titanium, Stickmount, Tasker, etc.?

Nexus 7 Help / Re: Help with 4.3 update« on: August 03, 2013, 06:12:56 AM »
I decided to hold off updating my nexus 7 until the kinks are worked out.
The ota update has downloaded on my device. What is the name of the downloaded update file so I can find it and save it for later? Thank you.
