I stupidly allowed my Son to use my Nexus 7 in his bedroom, after he broke the glass of his Zenithink (my tablet before Nexus7 upgrade) by treading on it as his room was a dump... Yes, he has now done the same to my Nexus 7, after only using it for two weeks! Arrrggghhh! Does anyone know if there are companies in the UK that won't charge me an extortionate amount to repair it, or does anyone know of a store that sells replacement parts? As far as I know the digitiser is OK, BUT - it is only responsive to touch on the right hand side of the spider web like crack he has caused. The screen underneath looks fine, until you press on it, then you get a ripple effect like when you press on a laptop or PC monitor, I presume the screen is LCD then? There doesn't seem to be any damage to the screen itself, but who can tell. I am hoping the digitiser is not working perfectly due to the extent of glass damage. Here is a photo with it switched off: Excuse the state of the screen, I just wiped it down as it was minging, so his greasy finger prints ended up a smudgy mess. If you need to see it switched on, give me a shout and I will do so. Them as can do has to do for them as can't. And someone has to speak up for them as has no voices.

Just wanted to update you all on this, there was obviously a serious software issue because I removed damn near everything and the little bar thingy at the top of the storage breakdown in settings/storage claimed my tablet was now half empty, the individually, manually calculated apps at the bottom confirmed this, yet the total free space claimed to be 2Gig...
After lots of swearing, getting burned, getting really annoyed with it, the battery constantly draining, never going above 30% during charging AND usage, never being at "charged" status after an overnight bout of being totally idle, or even being switched off! I admitted defeat, moved all the files I wanted to keep to my laptop, and performed a factory reset.
I then moved SOME of the files I wanted to keep and that were on the device prior to all the problems, and hey presto, my battery sits at "charged" on idle, and 99-100% on usage, how it should and used to! :-) I also don't get the "burning hot to touch" situation at the bottom left corner. (I wasn't exaggerating, I showed the other half and he nearly dropped it because his brain told him to withdraw immediately)... I only registered part of the heat because of my disability, so when I said it was flipping hot, I was being as genuine as one who cannot always distinguish between heat and cold could possibly be. It wasn't "scarring tissue" hot, but it was hot enough for Simon's brain to recoil (?) his hand...
All fixed now though, thanks for all your help. :-)
Just to point out, my hands were never "wet" I NEVER touch electrical items with wet hands, never mind ports and sockets and plugs etc, I learned this from my Dad, a qualified Sparky. Clammy does not mean WET, (to me anyway) it means bordering on moist.. at either warm or cold temps...

I left the tablet running overnight for a couple of nights, and hardly used it at all yesterday and now I'm getting Screen 99% when nothing in the foreground is running and I have left no apps running so the media problem is fixed, my Fiance said it could have been trying to index files that no longer existed, or that were corrupt, either way that part is no resolved....
Now need to resolve the heat issue. It is still running STUPIDLY hot, BUT I like to run the screen at 100% brightness when I am using it, so it COULD be that? (Main major heat is bottom left corner from edge of tablet up to about 1/3 way and 2/3 across to right.
I am going to ask a REALLY stupid question now, so humour me...
Those gold dot thingies on the left hand side towards the bottom? Would touching them with constantly clammy hands (giving a conductive surface) have any adverse effect? (Hits herself for even suggesting it!)

I had a SEVERE problem ALL DAY yesterday, where charging the tablet just wasn't enough to keep it afloat, even on leaving it alone. It was so low in battery, that the screen kept failing and going like an old untuned tv, prior to the whole tablet switching itself off! BEFORE this problem, I uninstalled at least 30 apps that I either no longer used, or had never used! My storage still claimed to only have 2gig free, even though the little colourful bar above it showed that I had half the tablet of space. (The tablet was crawling at snail pace and moaning there was not sufficient space to play Draw Something!) One thing the tablet keeps doing is getting so hot in the bottom left corner that it is very uncomfortable to touch/hold, it makes my finger feel really hot and very itchy, almost like a "prickly heat" rash! This must be REALLY hot, because I cannot always differentiate between hot and cold items, I have been able to hold things straight out of a 200°C oven, obviously burning myself quite badly. (Hence my Fiancé banning me from using kitchen appliances) I made the mistake of trying to download a font file that was 465MB from Dropbox, after this everything went belly up... When looking at what was draining the battery, MEDIA was at 67%. On clicking on media, the items it listed were: * DRM protected content storage, * Media storage, * Downloads, * Download Manager. I have Cleared Data and Force Stopped each of these, I even disabled DRM Protected Content Storage, but it just went down to 56% I have done enough to allow the tablet to get up to 73% battery last night, and it seems to be keeping it's charge and trickle charging on top of that. (reached 84% after just under three hours constant usage) I am now at a loss as to how on Earth I properly fix this. I hooked up to my laptop and removed as much media as I could bear last night, this freed up another gig, I also found where the "fonts zip files" had downloaded and removed them, thinking that my problem lay there, nothing. My tablet now claims I have just under 6Gig of space, but the picture bar thingy looks like there is over half the tablet of now empty space. My Fiancé spent at least an hour faffing around with trying to fix it last night, based on other users' experience of this exact same battery draining media problem. (Xda developers forum) No news on the severe heat in the bottom left corner though. Any input/suggestions? (I can feel it REALLY HOT on my leg, AND there's little to no feeling in my legs most of the time!)

I'm running ICS on my tablet, I'm willing to test it for you, however, there are currently four different apps that come up with the name "appinstaller" could you inform me which one I should be trialing?

I don't use my tablet or phone without a stylus, both capacitive, I rely on it so much I have one on a nylon cord around my neck because I kept losing it. Pmsl I initially bought a stylus to play Draw Something with my Facebook friends on my Samsung Galaxy S2. When Draw Something arrived on my tablet I was in a world of joy! (Sad life that I live )

Hi there, I'm a 36 year old Mum of two, my Daughter is 13 ( although she's been an active "Kevin" since she started High School!) and my Son is 10. We live in a small village on the outskirts of Cannock, Staffordshire. (West Midlands) When I'm having a really good day, I like to design and create greeting cards and Jewellery for family and friends' Special occasions. On a bad day I lie down and socialise in my "online world" on my tablet. (I used to use my SGS2, but as my health has deteriorated, so have my eyes.) On a REALLY bad day, I have to rest completely and sleep a lot. Things I do on my tablet: forumising using tapatalk, playing Draw Something, playing Words with Friends, reading Pratchett on kindle app, drawing using picasso, Tap Farm is my favourite time management game, (only game I miss from my iPod then iPhone is Zombie Farm heheh) I also enjoy Wordsearch, I blog about my crafty makes in WordPress, (had to install apk for that one) I occasionally enjoy socialising on facebook, (another apk install) I like Google+ but it keeps crashing when I try to enter messages, and I cannot reinstall as it was a stock app, cannot "uninstall updates" either, so I'm stuck with a broken app. (I have to use my mobile if I want to speak privately to someone in G+) I installed all my music onto my tablet but I don't use it as I have my mobile to plug into my iPod dock for that, when my Son adopts this tablet, I'll take the music off so he has more space for games. There's many more apps but I won't bore you all any longer. I am currently using a Zenithink ZT282 (C91 Upgrade) but I'm getting the Nexus 7 in four days time! (and counting!) I'm hoping to purchase it from PC World/Currys on Wednesday so I don't have to wait for delivery ;-) My only concern is the drop in screen size, as this tablet is 10.2" from corner to corner, visible screen size. Though, my arms are getting weaker as time goes by, and I really hurt when trying to hold this thing already, I'm guessing that downsizing to something smaller, and hopefully lighter would be a sensible move? I am hoping that the sheer speed and power and capability of the Nexus 7 will easily neutralize, (maybe hit the positive!) the negative points, on the reduction in screen size. Current tablet cons. 1. No GPS. 2. No Bluetooth. 3. HEAVY. 4. INSANELY Slow performance. 5. Compatibility issues with many apps, including Facebook, Twitter, Wordpress, Chrome, BBC iPlayer and Netflix to name but a few... (I know iPlayer and Netflix are a flash issue) 6. No SIM card slot. 7. Made in China by Chinese Company and their Customer Service is far from satisfactory. Current tablet Pros. 1. Micro SD card slot for expansion up to 32Gig. (Poss. 64, can't remember!) 2. 10.2" screen. Known Cons of Nexus 7 (known by my research only) 1. No expansion available? 2. No SIM card slot? 3. 7" screen only. 4. 16Gig Max onboard storage (whereas iPad goes up to 64Gig, although it is STUPIDLY expensive) Known Pros of Nexus 7 (that I know of) 1. Fast! 2. GPS 3. Bluetooth? 4. Compatible with more apps than ZT282? 5. Reasonably light and easy to handle due to smaller size? 6. Made by reputable company. 7. It's not an apple product! (Teehee) If you can assist in further proving that upgrading/downsizing to the Nexus 7 is a brilliant idea, I would be truly grateful. Looking forward to getting to know you all! :-) kind regards CV
