Close call.

I accidentally dropped my 7 on the floor this morning, only about 10 inches off a small table , and it landed on its screen, after picking it up I realised it had stopped working, screen blank no signs of life no matter what I did, I cursed a bit then went to find the box etc so maybe I could return it and get it fixed, when I thought I'd try one more time, I gently tapped 3 times on the screen as if to say "yoohoo you awake?"  and when I pressed the power button bugger me it switched on!! It must have just been knocked out lol. Not sure why I'm posting this other than it made me chuckle. Dead...tap tap tap.....ITS ALIIIIIVVVE!!!

UPDATE: my 7 is knackered! I was using it a couple of hours after the tiny drop when the image on the screen dissapeared replaced with just loads of lines, then nothing no power, dead! *sigh* will have to send it back n hope it can be fixed. Seems stupid that it can't even survive a drop of about a foot onto the ground! Had loads of stuff on it too, and as I have no pc I hadn't been backing it up so have probably lost it all. Doh!

Was the battery dead? That happens to me sometimes if I run the battery all the way down. Will it start back up?  If not I would plug in the device and hold power down for 30 seconds until it powers up.

It sounds like an intermittent short.  You may get lucky & bring it back to life again (by judicious tapping) long enough to transfer your data to a flash drive or another computer.  It's worth a try, if your data were that important.
