Maybe that is for opening the mini chip slot.

well, I used my hands and opened it with them the first time

you must be right. I checked it now. It fits in the hole beside the slot and when u move it up, the slot opens

Lots of phones come with those, my girlfriends HTC One S did, as did my Nexus 4...
