**UPDATE: AndroidPolice is reporting that Google Play Gift Cards have turned up in some Target stores. It looks like they are beginning to hit retailers as we speak and a Google announcement should be imminent.**Simultaneously with the introduction of the Nexus 7 there was much talk about how the Google Play store was also being expanded to more ably compete with similar online content stores like iTunes and the Amazon Market. In fact, the rebranding of the 'Android Market' to 'Google Play' was all part of this effort as well. Today we see the evidence of the next step in Google's efforts to make 'Google Play' a true contender for your entertainment dollar by leaking the first shots of their 'Google Play Gift Cards'.
Now all we know at this point is that from the pictures it would seem there will be $10 and $25 denominations and the packaging features the Google Play triangle that has become its new logo. There's also been Gift Card support as well as a 'wish list' implemented into the newest version of the Google Play Store app on all your Android devices. We're expecting an official announcement from the company as to just when these gift cards will become available and we imagine you'll find them hanging everywhere you currently find iTunes, Amazon and other Gift Cards; ie. supermarkets, Best Buy, department stores, mobile phone stores and perhaps through the Google Play site as well.
It should give the entire Android community a fun option to purchase as gifts for their favorite Android phone and tablet lovers this coming back to school and holiday season...and for that matter all year long. Good idea I think...and one more step in Android world domination.
So tell us...do you plan on picking up some 'Google Play Gift Cards' for your favorite Nexus 7 owner when they become available?
