Nexus 7 Productivity App Spotlight: 'Business Calendar'
« on: August 23, 2012, 09:48:00 AM »

Looking for a slick, professional yet easy to use calendar app for your Nexus 7?  Well look no further than the aptly named 'Business Calendar' by Appgenix Software.  While there a number of good competing calendars out there such as 'Calengoo' and 'Jorte' and 'aCalendar', 'Business Calendar' consistently ranks among the most popular and has been recently updated for 'Jelly Bean' so it works great with your N7.  With the ability to synchronize all your existing calendars into one easy to use interface and with terrific widget support, 'Business Calendar' has quickly become my favorite calendar to use on both my Nexus 7 and Android phone.  Here's a brief video that runs through just some of 'Business Calendar's features...

While the host mentions the Kindle Fire and Xoom, Business Calendar has recently been updated for Jelly Bean devices like the Nexus 7

Features:
* smooth scroll- and zoomable multi-day view (1-14 days)
* graphical and textual presentation
* month, agenda, day and event view
* quickly fade in/out calendars using the favorite bar
* search function
* configurable widgets in different sizes for month, week, agenda and day view (3 design themes for each widget type)
* easy switching between timeline bars and event titles in month view
* intuitive new handling option: just move your finger over some days of interest in month view to open them in the multi-day view
* quick day overview when adding a new event
* many options for recurrent events (e.g. to add a recurrent event that takes place every other week on Tuesday and Thursday)
* context-sensitive help system to optimize your work with Business Calendar

This is the free version of Business Calendar, it is containing (unintrusive) ads in some views but is fully functional! Even so, the ad-free paid version offers some additional features:

* drag&drop mode in the multi-day view to move and copy events
* option to link a contact to an event
* configurable font sizes for the app and the widgets
* option to select individual calendars for each widget
* own Business Calendar reminders
* 11 different widget design themes
* option to create templates for events
* import/export function for calendar files in the popular iCalendar format (.ics, .ical)

As is mentioned in the video one of the strong points of 'Business Calendar' is its terrific widget support which allows you to see your most important information at a glance without having to open up the full application.  I also love all the little slick features that this calendar app has that make it stand out above the rest.  Things like the animated 'pop up' of the days 'scheduled events' when you touch a day in month view and the little colored menu of your different calendars that runs along the bottom of the screen that let's you focus on just one 'calendar' at a time with a simple tap.    Another great thing is that 'Business Calendar' is scrollable and zoomable so that you can see just how much of a day, month or week on the screen that you want.  It provides almost an unlimited amount of customization.

Now there is a free version of 'Business Calendar' that is fully featured that I recommend you try out to see if you like it.   If you decide to go for the pro version it costs $4.99 and for the price you'll get a whole bunch of new color combination themes for the widgets plus a bunch of other customization features such as the ability to change font size, a drag and drop mode in multi-day view, the ability to select individual calendars for each widget and more.  I've got links for both versions below or  you can find them in the Google Play Store.  So, which calendar do you use and what do you think of 'Business Calendar'?  Let us know in the comments!

There's lots more customized widgets like these in the paid version
