We always get a kick out of drop tests. Sure, they're staged and probably don't represent the exact situations that most people damage their tablets in but they can give you an idea of just how durable they are. The latest to make the rounds of tech blogs is the above contest held by Square Trade which offers protection plans for various mobile devices.
Now what's interesting about this test is that various tech blogs have sort of skewed the results depending on what device they favor. As you can clearly see in the video the device that received the least physical damage was the Nexus 7. However, when put under water during the dunk test the Nexus 7 did turn itself off...but then restart. Unfortunately the camera doesn't stay on the Nexus 7 long enough to see if it completes the reboot and is completely usable but we'd hazard a guess that it was. So there you have it. The $199 Nexus 7 out-survives the $329 iPad Mini. We're not entirely surprised but let us know your thoughts in the comments.
