Just last week we saw 'The Times' UK paper offering a 16GB Nexus 7 for 50 pounds with 18 month subscription.   Well now it seems 'The Financial Times' is going one better and offering a free Nexus 7 with 12 month subscription to the leading financial newspaper.  Now this latest deal will cost $49 per month or $446.50 per year for digital-only, $598.48 per year for print and digital.   Interestingly Asus is apparently planning yet more content deals.  A representative from Asus UK stated the following:

Quote
“Yes, hopefully there will be more deals with other publishers and titles in the future. Asus UK is actively looking at innovative ways to get Asus products into consumers’ hands.”

Now a few more interesting points about this deal.  First off it is for an 8GB model of the Nexus 7.   This reduced the cost enough to allow the paper to make this deal without raising the price of the monthly subscription.  Apparently they considered such a move with the iPad but the price was simply too much to make it work.   The lower price point of the Nexus 7 gives content providers more flexibility in making such promotions to get devices into people's hands.  Here's a comment from a rep from 'The Financial Times' about the offer:

Quote
“We had looked at it for a while — originally with the iPad. But the economics of it were difficult. We were £2-a-week and the iPad was up in the £500 mark and the economics just didn’t work very well.”

“The Nexus is the first where we thought ‘this is a mainstream device that has value for both partners’. It’s the first time the market economics have allowed us to put this deal together.”

The Financial Times Nexus 7 promotion only goes until December 17th so that gives you about week left to take advantage of this offer.  It's great deal if you plan to subscribe to the paper anyway or would enjoy the info.    You can get more info HERE.
