Hi treee and welcome to the forum.
Thanks :)

Update: i got the hell in with it - i've wasted almost a day on this already - and did a factory reset. I then installed the MoDaCo launcher, hoping that all would now be well starting from a clean slate. Nah. Same problem.

I'm really at a loss now. The only other thing I can think of is to take it right back to it's original state, i.e. before I unlocked and rooted it. If the problem still exists then, at least it will be ready to return!

Yes, frustrating I know.  But there are many on here with 'rooted' N7s that have cameras that work as usual.  And it just doesn't seem like a hardware problem to me, but maybe...

addendum:  My camera does work in video mode, that is, like when I use it with the bar scanner program it functions just fine.  It's only when I ever try to take stills, that it's not responding.

Indeed! Having trawled at length, I've come to the conclusion that this isn't a very common problem all.

Anyway, I've unrooted and re-locked using Wug's toolkit.  The problem still exists :( I'm going to try sending it back for a swapout/repair... whatever it is they're doing nowadays.

Good luck with yours radio!

Wow!  Please keep us posted treee; we might not be the only ones that ever have this problem... and I'll be very interested to see what 'they' have to say.

Guys you don't need to lose all your data by doing a factory data reset.
Simply back up your internal storage onto your PC by copy & pasting and use Titanium Backup (root required) to save your apps and their data.
Perform a Factory data reset and then restore your games with Titanium Backup and copy & paste your internal memory back to tie N7.

Have u tried Vignette? It is a camera app with filters. Maybe that will work.

If the camera doesn't launch with the MoDaCo app then it won't launch at all, the MoDaCo app works for my N7 and many others so it's either a software fault which should be fixed with a Factory data reset or it's a hardware fault.
