Google had a big press event and demo today for its long-awaited and much-hyped 'Google Fiber' which is in essence their own hybrid ultra-high speed internet and cable tv initiative that promises to transform your living room.   One surprise was the inclusion of the Nexus 7 Tablet as the one and only official 'remote control' for the other hardware that is part of the system like the DVR and storage box.   A custom 'Google Fiber' app is expected to be available for the Nexus 7 and we wouldn't be surprised that homes with multiple Nexus 7 Tablets will be able to stream media as part of the system wherever you might be.

'Google Fiber' is only available for now in a handful of locations and is launching in Kansas City.  One of the many highlights of the system is its promise of super fast 1000 Mbps upload and download speeds for internet which is about 100x faster than traditional broadband.  Also offered as part of the service are over 160 cable tv and movie channels and the ability to record up to 8 channels at once for a total of 500 hours of tv on the DVR.   If successful the company plans to offer the service nationwide.   Does that mean every one that signs up for the service gets a Nexus 7 Tablet as a remote control?   Apparently at this time...the answer is a resounding yup. :)  Almost makes you want to move to Missouri doesn't it.

Oh I want this sooooo bad. Even if just Gigabit network access... the TV is only icing on top.
