Most popular applications have been updated already because the 4.4 source code has been out for nearly two weeks now. Yes the update will break root but as with the previous update I expect users with root and a custom recovery won't be able to update without at least removing the custom recovery.is there a way to avoid losing root?
I'm downloading the OTA update zip right now. 57% and counting...

I just flashed the OTA to my Nexus 7 2012 by sideload using TWRP and you will lose root, but it is an easy process to restore with Mark Skippen's or Wugfresh's toolkits.

You flashed it via TWRP?
Did you not flash SUPERSU whilst you were in TWRP?
That would have solved it wouldn't it.

Still waiting impatiently for my OTA on a 12 and 13.Couldn't wait.. Flashed the 13 with TWRP and rooted with Skippen. Pretty painless but I did have to bring my boot animation back to stock for the update to work. Liking the new subtle differences so far.

HELP HELPdo you have the zip file on the Nexus? Have you tried to just Flash the zip file thru TWRP and not sideloading?
I tried updating using Mark Skippen Unified Tool Kit and got this error message
error executing updater binary in Zip "data/media/0/sideload.zip
So I tried Wugfresh which my N7 can not get into adb mode
Try again with Unified Toolkit and somehow it keeps booting in TWRP
I decided to wipe data and try to load factory reset in TWRP. It keeps saying "uploading partition details.. for a long time 30-40 minutes"
I decided to power off to reboot
It keeps rebooting in TWRP ...
I can not get back to the usual screen to use Toolkit to recover my files
I have N7 2012, unlocked and rooted
DESPERATELY NEED HELP, PLEASE
In Twrp screen I nolonger have the recovery button
I tried to use Wugfresh 1.7.6 latest (today) version but it does not work because Toolkit said that adb device not found

Just tried add sideload ota.zip on my Nexus 4 via stock recovery, but it failed with "status 7".

Had to flash 4.4 onto my Nexus 4 as nothing good would work.I made a habit of making a nandroid of a rooted stock ROM immediately after update without installing any apps. For instance, right out of the box, unlock bootloader, custom recovery, root, nandroid. No apps installed, only Google login. Next time there is an update, restore this nandroid. Update and then immediately back up again. Restore apps with titanium. This preserves the ROM from any adulterations. Easy update at any time!
Now I have the 4.4.1 OTA on my Nexus 10 and it failed via TWRP so not sure how to proceed now.
I assume my Nexus 5 will get it soon also, so need advice for both.
I'm considering unrooting all devices so as not to have to keep reinstalling everytime.
I thought rooting made life easier ;)
