Android 4.4 KitKat Rolling Out To Both 2012 And 2013 Nexus 7s!
« on: November 13, 2013, 02:39:08 AM »

Well that was fast.  Android 4.4 is not even two weeks out and tonight the official Android Twitter account has announced that it is rolling out the latest version of Android starting tonight to 2012 and 2013 Nexus 7s.  Now from what we're told the Wi-Fi versions are going out first with the cellular data/LTE versions 'coming soon'.  So hit that 'System Update' button inside your Settings menu on your Nexus 7s and then after the update be sure to come back here and start exploring all the new features with your fellow Nexus 7 owners!

Will the 4.4 install unroot my device like the 4.3 did?

I prefer to wait till any possible bugs have been worked out and all my apps work on 4.4.  How can I prevent the ota download so my wife doesn't unknowingly install it?

Where is the ota download found in the tablet folders?

Can the ota be prevented till I am ready?

Most popular applications have been updated already because the 4.4 source code has been out for nearly two weeks now. Yes the update will break root but as with the previous update I expect users with root and a custom recovery won't be able to update without at least removing the custom recovery.

I'm downloading the OTA update zip right now. 57% and counting...

Probably best to boot into recovery mode to flash the OTA update.

Once done, re-flash SuperSU.

Reboot and you should still be rooted.

Do this at your own risk.

I just flashed the OTA to my Nexus 7 2012 by sideload using TWRP and you will lose root, but it is an easy process to restore with Mark Skippen's or Wugfresh's toolkits.

You flashed it via TWRP?

Did you not flash SUPERSU whilst you were in TWRP?

That would have solved it wouldn't it.

Hi
After owning the original Nexus since July 2012, I still feel like a newbie, so I always ask for help. Hope you don't mind

Will the applications be lost also ?
If so can I recover these applications from my nandroid back up using Wugfresh tool kit ?

Can you give me step by step guides ?

Is the OTA you referred to this file ?13088e35942c77e4752aa1fdf51d54472509b941.signed-nakasi-KRT16O-from-JWR66Y.13088e35.zip
Since the file name is too long, can I rename it such as Update.zip ?
Where do I put this file before sideloading in TWRP ?
How do I side load ? using TWRP ?
Mine is Nexus 2012 unlocked and rooted with 4.3 version

Many Thanks

I did flash with TWRP, using Mark Skippen's toolkit, rebooted, then used option 4 in the Toolkit to flash SuperSU and it was done. All of my apps and data remained unaffected. The ToolKit just takes a lot of the work out of sideloading and flashing zips. BTW, I simply downloaded the OTA and did not receive it from Google update on the tablet.

That failed :(

Bugger! In constant boot loop now.

Will have to reflash it.

Do you use Mark Skippen's original toolkit or the new "Unified ToolKit" ?

Yes, I used the new Unified Toolkit. Remember when you restore root that you choose the last build, because the Toolkit does not have the KitKat build. Read the sideload prompts carefully in the toolkit and you should not have a problem.
