Nexus 7 Help / Re: You Tube???
« on: March 28, 2013, 09:40:01 AM »
I just did a factory reset - before (!) I saw the last post from s.prime  (for which I thank him very much) - and the situation is much improved.

Thank you to everyone for your advice.

This baby might just have had a reprieve.

BTW Matt, if there are a "million +" mentions of problems similar to mine, is this not indicative of a serious situation? And would you happen to know if anything is being done to solve it? And where would one go to find out if there are plans afoot?

This is the last message on this subject, I swear.
In addition to constant - albeit minutes apart rather than milliseconds - buffering on YouTube, the buffering plague has now spread to bluetooth reception on a portable speaker. Although my Desire S phone pairs and plays perfectly, my N7 drops out and buffers every 10 seconds or so.
There is definitely a buffering problem.
I am rapidly falling out of love with my N7. I bought my partner a Samsung Galaxy Tab2 for Christmas and that is just as fast and gives absolutely no problems at all - plus it has an expandable memory.
On my return from holiday, and still within warranty, this little baby is on its way back to ASUS.  What a pity!!

Thanks All. Things are now back to "normal". That is, every few minutes - rather than every few milliseconds when bluetooth is enabled -  the YouTube video stops to buffer. At this point I hit the menu>settings, then return - whereupon the video plays from where it left off. Until the next time.
I guess I'll have to live with that, as everything else seems to be OK.

Matt, do you think that perhaps a factory reset will improve matters? Or should I just get on with the status quo?

Matt, thanks for your thoughtful reply.
I ran a speed test, and it shows a download speed of about 7500kbs which is par for my course.
Now I have discovered that I cannot even play film trailers from IMdB. They stop after about 2 seconds and do not restart. There is obviously a fault.
I am very reluctant to remove the back myself as it may void my warranty, but I shall certainly pass your remarks on to PC World from whom I bought it.
When I bought the N7 last October it worked perfectly, so this video trouble is a very recent phenomenon, which leads me to suspect that you are correct about the loosened contacts - but wouldn't I then be having problems with BBC News? Anything written is OK and very fast, but as soon as I switch to video - bingo!
Trouble is, I'm going away for a few weeks and am depending on my video downloads which I play on MX player - which behaves beautifully BTW - so I can't take it back to the store just yet as they will pass it back to the manufacturer.

***UPDATE*** I turned off my Bluetooth, and things are working again. Flippin' Nora, was it the Bluetooth all along? IMdB OK, YouTube seems better. I'll do a lengthier check and let you know if I may.

Sorry to bang on about this, but now my N7 will not play any sort of video from any source without hangups every few seconds. The latest is a bloomberg video: http://bloom.bg/10lO3VJ which plays beautifully on my HTC desire S in my left hand and is completely unplayable on my N7 in my right.
Matt, "Hey", I did not buy my N7 SOLELY to play videos on YouTube as you averred earlier, but wouldn't you say that playing video is ONE of the main reasons for owning ANY tablet??
I cannot now play any videos. Is that the norm? Would the consensus be that there is a fault with my N7, and if so to whom do I turn to have it repaired - ASUS?

Thank you. So I am not alone I guess. But as bjs229 says I have aired this problem before, only to fall foul of the "I don't have this problem" brigade.
Tonight, on both You Tube and PVStar+ I was not able to run more than 3 seconds before stalling.
No, I didn't buy it for that Matt, but I don't see the buffering on Samsung or Apple products so I thought it may be an N7 issue.
Are you saying that it is not?

Nexus 7 Help / You Tube???
« on: March 25, 2013, 02:48:48 PM »
I know that many people have had problems with the freezing/hanging/buffering of You Tube videos on the Nexus 7 - but I have not seen any definitive answer/solution to a very, very real problem.
Generally, the approach is "well I don't have any problems". This is most unhelpful because I DO, and so, apparently do many others.
This device is a Google flagship, and You Tube is a Google company, so why is it that there is a problem streaming the one on the other? Friends with iPads are laughing at the sheer ineffectualness of the N7 when playing You Tube on what is, in a lot of ways, a superior device to the Apple.
Can someone please supply an answer because I have tried everything that I can think of, and that others have suggested - it is, for example, impossible to uninstall the app on my unrooted device, and just deleting data and/or updates does nothing. I have tried also PVStar+ as an alternative, but this also has a problem of late.
Now, does the N7 have a problem with video streaming? Or is it just MY N7 that is the problem? Do I have a case for returning to manufacturer? If so, who do I contact, Google, or ASUS?
I am at my wits end.......Please help.

I guess the solution was - as ever - turn ithe N7off, and turn it on again!! It now works. 8)

My Bluetooth refuses to switch on.
The N7 was on airplane mode, and I understand that bluetooth cannot operate under that condition, but I have turned the AirMode off  and it still doesn't work - the switch flips back each time.
Any ideas?

Thanks all. pvstar+ has worked perfectly so far   :D :D
I would still like to know why my N7 doesn't like YouTube, because the surfing options are better.
My device is not rooted, and I don't want to start fiddling with it - but I don't really see why I should have to!

Nexus 7 User Tips / YouTube problems and solution(?)
« on: March 22, 2013, 11:55:13 AM »
For some time now my otherwise excellent nexus 7 has been having buffering problems in YouTube. I tried everything including removing the cache and other steps recommended. Nothing worked. Until.........

Now when the screen freezes (dreaded circling circle), I hit the menu (three dots) icon on top right, press "settings", then "return". At this point the circle has been replaced by the arrow and the video starts up where it left off when it is pressed. It can happen more than 5 times in one 40 minute video (I do love aircrash investigations!)

Why there is a problem in the first place, I have yet to discover - equally, I don't know why my solution works - it just does.

Can anyone enlighten me on these two conundrums?

Does anyone else suffer?

A solution offered by ASUS is to approach YouTube through the browser because the (uninstallable) app may be corrupted, but this spoils YouTube surfing.

Thanks very much for your speedy reply. A refreshing change from the usual forum ignore!
I am not quite sure what you mean by unchecking "wifi optimisation" in settings, where would I find such a thing to uncheck? I don't see it. If I can't fix the youtube problem it sort of rubs the gloss off a bit.
The other small problem is my inability to send emails using my own server (talktalk). I have been forced to use gmail which has - for me - a very unfriendly interface. The outgoing port is set at 587 and will not change, and I think that may be the problem. Any ideas?
Once again that for the response.

My name is Tony from Lancashire, I recently purchased my N7 and am generally happy excepting a couple of niggly problems.
Mainly with youtube freezing all the time. I have found it to be impossible to watch a youtube video for more than a few seconds before it starts to buffer. Even my HTC phone on 3G doesn't do that. Is there a fix? If not it is v v disappointing - especially when I am in the presence of an iPad owner!
