I just pulled down the factory image and flashed system through fastboot. I then booted into twrp and wiped cache and dalvik. No major issues, though I had a mystery freeze this morning.

Do you have to use the on screen controls? I remember seeing a huge usb arcade controller at Fry's. Make a nexus mount, maybe a fresnel lens. Wait, I've got an Atari in the attic! And a 75 baud modem! I wonder if my bulletin board subscription lapsed. Ymodem rules! Old people drool.

YModem? Kermit! And I think the 75 baud modem might be a current loop TTY interface. Hey, I learned to type on an IBM model 026 keypunch. How many people can say that on this forum?

And just to make me seem older... Yes, I worked on paper tape punches back in the day.

Unplug your USB flash drive and plug it back in.  Stickmount should automatically mount it.  The first time, SuperSU should ask if you want to grant it access.

Also, on the current stickmount, you sometimes have to remove and insert it a second time. Annoying but true.

Nexus 7 User Tips / Re: You REALLY don't want the battery to die on the N7
« on: November 19, 2012, 09:15:52 AM »
I had run it out at least once before as well. This battery-caused bootloop was a huge surprise. I think the "fix" was to yank the USB cord during the boot and force power off by holding the power key. The next time I put the USB cord in after that, I got the charging animation and not the boot animation.

Replying to myself... The only reason I even tried this was because the tablet WOULD NOT CHARGE when plugged in with power off. It would boot the os instead, which would soak up what charge it was able to get, and power right back off. And it would repeat this over and over.

Trust me, it was only out of desperation that I flashed recovery on a dead battery. Since it was the only non stock firmware on the system, I thought that there may have been an interaction between the new boot and the TWRP recovery. Having flashed earlier in the day, I knew that I could get stock recovery back on the tablet if I was very quick. I knew I had about a minute in the bootloader, so the command was sitting waiting for the bootloader to come up.

In any event, it seems that yanking the charger and immediately forcing the tablet to power off allowed the system to behave correctly when I next plugged it in. The best thing is to not let the battery drain that much.

I ran my n7 dry this evening, and all hell broke loose. Every time I plugged it into the wall charger, it would sit for a few minutes, and them try to do a normal boot.

This not attempt would drain the battery of the half percent charge it had and cause the tablet to ALMOST shut down.

I THINK I did this to get out of it.
1) plugged in and waited for the boot animation.
2) pulled the USB cord
3) held down the power button to force shutdown.
4) plugged into my PC.
5) got the charging anim this time.

I also managed to get into he boot loader long enough to revert to the stock recovery, but I tried at least twice after that flash to no effect.

Not yet. I have a phone with a decent data plan and tethering, so I don't really need it.

Of course, if one fell into my lap....

Nexus 7 Polls / Re: Which eBook/eReader App Do You Most Use?
« on: November 04, 2012, 08:31:37 PM »
I use overdrive the most, my library uses it and just added freading.com.

As a small note freading has serious problems.
1) it takes over all PDF downloads. This wouldn't be so bad, except...
2) the app hangs reading PDF files.

I have the nook app on my Nexus, mostly because I like its reading interface, though I can't find out how to make it switch to a list instead of just showing the book jackets.

Just saying that the n7 works beautifully through the wifi hotspot feature on my Tmobile Galaxy s2 running cm10.
