Nexus 7 General Discussion / Re: Nexus 7 randomly shutting down
« on: April 22, 2014, 09:11:22 AM »
Good news about this tablet in question. I called Asus directly and since it was serviced for a similar problem less than 90 days (I gave them the previous RMA number), they agreed to fix it again at no cost to me. I sent it in and then got it back. Now its working 100% again & I was glad to see some good customer service by a company when it can be rare these days, but I also tend to wonder for how long this tablet will continue to work properly.

Just passing this along to others in case you are in a similar situation.

Well, it has officially seem to TOTALLY die. ABout 3 weeks after the warranty ended too. Figures.  Not even plugging it in will revive it in any way. It could be the battery, but at this point, the bottom line is it looks like I am totally done with the Nexus brand of tablets and moving on to something else (probably an iPad).

If was fun while it lasted & nice knowing you.... R.I.P.....

Yea,I don't believe it shuts down at all during charging and charges fine. At least I don't remember it doing this, but will have to double check this. If it is indeed a battery problem, I take it this is not something I can easily fix, correct? (assuming since the unit seems totally enclosed & no battery cover or access to battery compartment)

Also, not sure if this matters & I just thought of these, but this problem will occur at ANY charge level of the battery too. 100%, 50%, 23%, etc.  It doesn't matter how full or empty the battery is, it will still randomly shut down if I leave it on. And it seems it will ONLY happen when after it goes to sleep. it never shuts down while I am in the middle of using it.

Nexus 7 General Discussion / Nexus 7 randomly shutting down

I have a 2012 Nexus 7 (32gb) that seems to be shutting down randomly. At first, I thought it was its Blurex magnetic case. I eliminated the case, but it still randomly shuts down. In ALL cases, getting it to turn back on requires connecting its charger. Sometimes the battery symbol comes back within 5 seconds. Sometimes it requires me to hold the power button down for at least 15secs.

I upgraded it from Android 4.3 (Jelly bean) to 4.4 (KitKat) and still have the same problem. I even did a factory reset; cleared and wiped it all out. Same thing. In order to get any real functionality out of it, I have to totally shut it down after EVERY use.

Is there ANY solution to this problem or is this a sign that the tablet is failing & some sort of hardware problem? I have had it just over a year (of course this would happen AFTER the warranty) and its already been serviced once (under warranty) so if it is failing again, then I will soon be looking elsewhere for a tablet.

OK.  sounds good. I actually also have a Kindle Fire and am now looking into if this product can somehow use the OTG cable without being rooted as well. If so, how. Guess it would be the same thing and just make sure the ad states the OTG will work with a Kindle Fire.

6
OK, I see all kinds of places selling these OTG cables on Amazon and ebay. Is there certain ones I should get and/or certain ones to stay away from?

7
So, I could at least use an OTG cable to have the Nexus 7 play media files from the connected USB thumb drive, correct? This is actually the main thing I was interested in for now. Don't want to clog up the internal 32GB with my media stuff.

8
So rooting the Nexus 7 is required in order to use ANY kind of OTG and/or features with it? Is it possible to use an OTG cable without rooting the N7?

9
So, I recently got a Nexus 7 (32gb). Its working great and I have enjoyed using it. I bought it thinking there was no way of expanding it, but I recently learned about a OTG cable that can be used with the Nexus7 in its micro-USB/charging port. From the way I understand it, I would then be able to use a USB thumb drive to play additional content.

What other uses can be used with an OTG cable? Is any kind of rooting needed in order to use it? If not, what app is needed to make it work best? Is there maybe a good website that has some info ALL about using the OTG with the Nexus 7?

Nexus 7 Apps / Re: Looking for good Wifi Fix apps
« on: March 11, 2013, 06:02:56 AM »
OK, I got home last night and finally was able to reset all 3 of my wireless access points. Unplugged them, waited 2 mins and then plugged back in. Unfortunately, my Nexus 7 would still NOT connect. However, what I did next seemed to work. Not sure why, but I basically told the Nexus 7 to "forget" all 3 of my wireless networks. Once I did this and then tried to connect to the 1st floor wireless access point again, it reconnected fine. Again, not sure why this worked, but it did and all is good again. Go figure.    :D

Yea, I would have thought since my Nexus 7 couldn't connect to ANY of my 3 wireless access points that its an issue with the Nexus. Also, it would be rare that all 3 wireless points have a problem & need to be reset. Hence the reason I figure there was something else going on here, but I will definitely reset all of them later today & I suppose anything is possible these days    ;)

I have not tried totally rebooting the router, but I actually have three wireless access points in my home. One on the first floor (the usual N7 connection point) and two in the basement. All other wireless devices were still working and connected to all wireless access points with no issues.

Now, the usual upstairs N7 wireless access point is behind a piece of furniture that needs to be pulled out to get to the wouter. This issue happened late last night and at the time, I wasn't really in the mood to try and get to it and totally reboot it. I probably could have done this via a networked PC by logging into it (192.168.1.X) and rebooting it that way, but didn't do either as it was late.

Like I said, no other hardware at home was having this wireless connection issue. I will try resetting them all when I get home later today, but in case that doesn't solve the problem & since my N7 can connect fine here at work, was looking to install some apps that might be able to fix the home wireless issue if needed.

Nexus 7 Apps / Looking for good Wifi Fix apps
« on: March 08, 2013, 07:17:50 AM »
I had issues with my Nexus 7 connecting to my home's wifi connection. All was working good until last night. For some reason, all of a sudden it would NOT connect to one of my two available routers when it never had a problem before. I tried everything; reboot, forget network, reconnect, etc. No luck. All other wireless devices in my home are working fine with these same wireless routers too so I know its not the router and more the N7.

I researched on home PC and there were some apps that were mentioned that can fix wifi issues, but since I couldn't connect, I couldn't download and install them at the time. I thought I might have to do a total reset, but just turned it off and went to bed.

I brought it into work today and it connected to our wifi here fine & with no issues. Therefore, I decided to search for  some wifi fixing apps just in case I have the same issue at home again. I downloaded one called 'Wifi Fixer' that seems to have gotten good reviews. Any others recommended that will work good with my Nexus 7?
