16 GB Nexus 7 user.

I know how to change the wallpaper of the Home Screen.  I also found an app called Color Wallpaper that lets me give the Home screens a solid background color.

But I can't figure out how to change the solid black background color of the App Drawer.

Is that possible?  If so, can it be done without an outside app?  If it does require an outside app, can you recommend one?

Thank you.

Hello.  I have the 16 GB Nexus 7 which I purchased last week.  So far, I like it, but customizing and organizing the Home screen is driving me nuts.  To keep things very, very simple, I have two questions about organizing the Home screen.

First, I should let you know I've wiped everything--EVERYTHING--off the Home screen and left it totally empty.  I got rid of all the widgets and icons.  I want to work with a totally clean screen, and go from there.  I've moved a few icons from the App Drawer to the Home screen.  Now, for the two questions.

1.  Is there a way to sort the icons in the home screen by name?  Or, am I going to have to move them around manually to get them in alphabetical order?  Can I do this without a downloaded app?

2.  I was under the impression--perhaps wrongly--that long tapping the Home key will bring up a menu with a few options, including New Folder.  That's not happening.  When I long tap the Home key, all I see is a semi-circle, with a white ball at the top that has the Google logo.  Is that what I'm supposed to see?  I want to group my apps into folders, but honestly, I don't like the native way of doing it.  I've dragged icons over icons, creating new folders, but is that the only way it can be done?

Okay, those are the two questions I want to start off with.  Thanks for helping out.  Jd

New Member Introductions / Hi, I am Jd and I'm Brand New to Android
« on: September 10, 2012, 09:06:19 AM »
Greetings, everyone.  I'm Jack, but everyone calls me Jd.

I'm 52 and believe it or not was a computer consultant for ten years.  I know my stuff.  However, that was strictly Windows.  I just bought a Nexus 7 a week ago, and it's the first Android product I've ever used.  I feel like I know absolutely nothing.

Right now, I'm focusing on figuring out how to customize and organize the screens.  I hope I won't drive everyone nuts with endless questions.  I've read the Guide Book that comes with the Nexus 7, but honestly, it doesn't address the questions I have.

Anyway, just saying hi.  You'll see a few posts in other threads, seeking help.  Thanks for having me aboard.

Nexus 7 Help / Can I Ungroup and Convert My Library Icons? (16 GB Nexus 7)
« on: September 09, 2012, 09:13:48 AM »
Hello, everyone.
I am a brand new Nexus 7 owner.  I've been reading a lot of documentation about the tablet, including the guide book that comes with the Nexus in the Books section.

There is one thing I'm having trouble figuring out, and am requesting assistance with it, please.
On the home screen, the first thing I see it My Library.  I then scroll left and see a Recommended on Play item, and a Recommended Apps icon.  Below them are icons for the various apps I've installed.

My question is about the My Library section.  It has four icons:
1.  A movie (Transformers)
2.  The Nexus 7 Guidebook
3.  A Jason Bourne novel
4.  A magazine

Is there any way to convert these icons into smaller icons, similar to the icons for apps?  Also, they seem to be grouped together.  If I want to delete one of these four icons, I can't.  Can they be ungrouped?

Also, is there a way to remove these icons from the home screen WITHOUT actually deleting the content?  For example, I accidentally deleted the whole group from the home screen when I first began playing with the Nexus.  It looked like I deleted that material from the tablet completely, and couldn't figure out how to get it back, so I just factory reset the Nexus and they returned.  I don't want that to happen again.

Thank you for your assistance!   Jd

Nexus 7 Apps / Is There a Multiple POP3 E-Mail Color-Coded Notifier App?
« on: September 08, 2012, 12:26:04 PM »
Hello!   Please call me Jd.  I'm an experienced computer user, but I'm totally brand new to the world of Android.  I just bought a 16 GB Nexus 7.

I'm interested in finding out if there is a certain type of app.

On my desktop PC, I use a freeware application called ePrompter.  It's been around for years, and is fantastic.  It notifies me if I have e-mail.  ePrompter supports up to 16 e-mail accounts.   You can read the e-mail while it's still on the server, before you download it; it's similar in that respect to Mail Washer.

What makes ePrompter so useful to me is that each e-mail account can be color-coded.  You can look in the system tray and see which accounts have e-mail, just by looking at the colors.

Furthermore, ePrompter has several screen savers that display the color coded notifications.  Great program, and free.

So…are there any Android apps, compatible with the Nexus 7, that do anything similar?  I don't need screen savers, obviously, but is there anything that monitors multiple POP3 accounts and displays a message or icon or something, letting you know which accounts have mail?

Thank you very much for any assistance.  Jd
