Nexus 7 Root, Hacks, Mods And Development / Can't Root...Won't Root
« on: March 25, 2013, 09:03:17 AM »
After eventually installing the correct drivers and unlocking the bootloader using the Nexus Root Toolkit, I went for the next step which is 'rooting'

Unfortunately I seem to have come unstuck.

i've followed the instructions and I get a small window appear saying 'Booting modified boot.img to enable running privileged commands'

My Nexus then reboots and the android robot appears with a couple of arrows pointing to the up/down volume and a 'start' arrow pointing to the power on/off button. I assumed I needed to press all three of these together, which I have done and the Nexus boots up but just into what I would call 'normal' mode.

Not sure if anything else should happen, but after 10 minutes I've still got the window on my PC telling me it's booting modified boot.img

Have a done something wrong or missed out a stage?

Any help much appreciated.

Nexus 7 Root, Hacks, Mods And Development / Driver Problems...
« on: March 23, 2013, 05:00:32 AM »
Hi people..

Last night decided to root my Nexus 7. Downloaded Nexus Root Toolkit v1.6.3 and started with driver installation guide.

After approximately 15 attempts, I still can't seem to install the drivers. I get to the very end of the process but when I go to the 'full driver test' it tells me the drivers have failed to install correctly.

I've followed every instruction to the letter but to no avail.

I'm using windows vista if that makes any difference.

I've tried all 3 driver solutions, starting with number 3 as recommended, but still doesn't work.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Nexus 7 Root, Hacks, Mods And Development / To Root or Not To Root?
« on: January 17, 2013, 01:05:25 AM »
Hi guys

I have recently bought a Nexus 7 and it's my first ever Android device. I keep seeing mention of 'Rooting' but can't seem to work out exactly why I would want to root my device.

Out of the box the device appears to work flawlessly and I have no complaints about it whatsoever.

However, I'm always keen to improve things if things can be improved and would like to know whether 'rooting'is just something people do because they can or because it actually provides some benefits to what I already think is a great piece of kit.

All opinions gratefully received....

Hi all

I'm about to pull the trigger on a Nexus 7 but need to know if and how to tether to a Nokia N8 before I part with my cash.

If it's not possible then I'll have to look at an alternative.

Many thanks
