Nexus 7 Apps / Widget to display folder from file system?
« on: September 07, 2012, 03:30:12 PM »
Anyone know of an application that has a widget to display a folder from file system?

I have a folder with many PDFs that I'd like to launch from the home screen.

Nexus 7 General Discussion / Hmm. Music on a table?
« on: August 16, 2012, 12:53:00 PM »
I loaded some music files onto my Nexus 7, and when I played them through the on-board speakers, they sounded as I expected: Decent, but tinny like I would expect most tablet speakers to sound. Nothing surprising here.

I had to set it down on the table for a moment, and the sound suddenly went from sounding like a tin can to a more fuller sound. OK, so it's not a Mark Levinson, but the sound quality was noticeably better. Not significantly better, but better.

Anyone else notice this?

Nexus 7 Apps / What's your note-taking app of choice?
« on: August 16, 2012, 09:13:43 AM »
Just got my Nexus 7 last night (very impressed, BTW) and I've been scouring the Play Store for note-taking apps.

On my Droid Bionic, my not-taking app of choice is GNotes because of it's minimalist design and its robust input methods (text, handwriting, drawing, voice, and photo.) And it syncs to either Gmail or the GNotes Web site providing a nice backup and sync across devices. GNotes works very well on my Nexus 7, though it's not a true "tablet" app--it renders simply as a large phone app.

While GNotes may end up being my Nexus 7 note-taking app of choice, I'm interested in your suggestions and experiences with other note-taking apps.

New Member Introductions / Soon to be a Nexus 7 owner
« on: August 13, 2012, 09:30:51 AM »
I all!

I'm Jim Barr, and I'm a tech geek through and through. I've been using various tablets and handhelds since the early Casio Zoomer and USR Pilot 1000 days. I'm really excited about the new Nexus 7 with its sleek design and great features.

I just sold my Google CR-48 Chromebook, and I sold my Nook Color. So that, plus a small amount of spare cash, I had enough to purchase a 16GB Nexus 7. I placed my order on Google Play last night, so now I patiently await its arrival.

I ran my Nook Color with CM7, and as an e-reader and basic tablet, it was quite nice. But from all I have read about the Nexus 7, it should really leave the Nook in the dust.

Oh, and I also run jimstips.com, however it's sorely in need of some fresh content.
