The Lounge: Off Topic Forum / Re: My GOOGLE NEXUS 7 EXPERIENCE .
« on: September 28, 2012, 09:12:22 AM »
Thanks everyone. Today i sent them over night the 8 gb tablet. with a huge letter in the box. as well as im sending  6 letters to different google corp addresses. with all the emails between me and google play devices. .The manager at my bank  also has all of this information . She says two days after they receive the 8 gb device back to come back in and she will file a FRAUD Case. She does not want to just do a grievance. Because that goes into mediation. fraud claim will get VISA involved . She tells me there are many against google for this very same thing.

I JUST want to add this is not a GOOGLE/ ANDROID ISSUE . Its a issue with the google play/ devices corp. A SUB Corporation of google  . nothing to do with Android or the company as a whole.. its just there device selling practices..

The Lounge: Off Topic Forum / My GOOGLE NEXUS 7 EXPERIENCE .
« on: September 27, 2012, 08:20:51 PM »
I HOPE its ok to post this here if not please move to the correct place . This is just my story and very similar to many i have read on the other forums and web sites.  thanks for reading

My google experience
I pre ordered the google nexus 7 on the day the went on sale. One week after they started shipping  i sent google a email asking them when mine would ship. I was told within a week. Two weeks later i  call them to see what is up. As at this point my account was charged for the device. They tell me shipping any day. Two days later i see on my wallet account as google nexus 16 gb ORDER CANCELED BY SELLER.
So i call google back and ask what is up. they said it was a computer issue. And that i would have to reorder. At this time they where backorderd for up to 4-6 weeks on the 8 gb  . OUT OF STOCK ON 16. So i ordered the 8 gb version. After a week i received it. Two weeks later i start seeing lines on the screen when you hold it on the left side of the screen as well as the screen moving.
I CALL GOOGLE BACK . they tell me that I can send it back and DO A advance replacmeent exchange. I tell them im not having my money put on hold. I will send it back in a few weeks and just reorder another device when they receive it.
So i decided to just order the device and send this back into them when i receive the new device. .
Its now the end of Aug the new device comes in the mail . It comes in with a CRACKED SCREEN . SO not 30 minutes after usp drops the device off i call GOOGLE YET AGAIN. TO GET A RMA for the brand new replacement device. I GET THAT JUST FINE.Send google this device that i only had for 30 minutes in my posession. still at this time holding on the original device as its still working . you just cant push on the left side of screen. GOOGLE Recieved the device on the 5th  of september.  Since then i have had several phone calls and exchange of emails. Being told that the device i sent them back was the original device and they WOULD NOT ISSUE A REFUND OR REPLACE THE DEVICE. STATING THAT i would have to prove what device i sent in. They have it so i have no way of doing so . Other then they can see what device is being used and connected to my google wallet. They understand and can see this so im told. But still refuse to help me in any way. So now today on 9/27 I contact them for the last time and demand i get a RMA to send the original device back to them as proof that it was not the one they keep saying they have. SO NOW GOOGLE HAS ALL OF MY MONEY BOTH OF MY DEVICES .  AND COULD CARE LESS ABOUT ME AS A CUSTOMER

Backup first.
Recomended for advanced users . But if you understand the not so well written instructions you should be just fine. Any comments are welcome.  Remember to always backup. As well as Know how to restore your device before attempting any type of Mod.

Ok Thought i would share a fairly easy Customization Process

what you will need
1 a rooted phone
2 file manager (prefer root explorer)
3 Desktop computer with the fallowing software
a. 7 ZIP (or any program to work within a zip file without extracting it )
b. editing software such as photo shop or paint shop gimp.. (To work with.png files.

Ok to begin with BACKUP UP YOUR PHONE FULLY.I recommend doing this only if you have CWM or another way from pre boot to restore your device. Such as fast-boot knowledge and files needed. If you do brick your phone im NOT responsible.

The system ui app in your phone is the user interface. what you see and touch. All the icons in your notification try and so on. You can edit these with the instructions below. AGAIN BACKUP SAVE ORIGINAL. NEVER EDIT ORIGINAL ..

First
from your phone
go to system /app folder.Using a r/w file browser
copy the systemui.apk to a folder we will use /download
Second .
Create a folder on your computer c/system ui
in that folder create a folder Original and another called edited
looks like this ... c:/ system ui
original
edited
Third .. Copy the file system ui from the Devices download folder and place in the original folder at c:/system ui/original.
4th copy the file system ui from original and place in the edited folder .
you will have this structure
c:/system ui/original/systemui.app
edited/systemui.app
the above is for backup purposes yes its redundant .

what we will work with is the edited folder ONLY. Inside that folder create a folder called workspace
NOW OPEN 7 ZIP.. browse to the edited/system ui.
open the file in the 7 zip file browsr . DO NOT EXTRACT IT!!!1
in there you will see folders. i suggest you browse around in them and get yourself with where you find the icons and so on.
Once you decided what you want to change and edit. COPY THE FILE Containing the icons you want to change out of there.. copy and past it to the workspace folder. Close the 7 zip..
open the 7 zip . find the icon you wish to edit. copy it out of that folder to a place you want to work on it with. This will keep from confusion. Remeber that icons have different states and many have up down on and off files. as well as files for effects such as glow and so on.
I suggest you edit one file at a time at first and see the changes you do. Say use photo shop to change color.
Pay close attention to file name file size these have to match the original . if you use a different file size it will look bigger or smaller and could cause framework issues once back on the device.

Once you have edited the file..
go back to the /edited/systemui.app and open it with 7 zip (again do not extract or decompress this file)
In another window open the workspace folder then the folder you pulled out of the the system ui .app
Copy the edited file.. and past it into the edited/system ui.app . you will get a already exist tell it to replace. or add to zip. (the message depends on zip program)
once this is done
put this edited system ui file back to the phone ..
then copy and paste it back back into system/app folder . (use must use a r/w file manager again) it will overwrite the original.. say yes.
Now this willl crash your system ui .. At this point reboot the phone by holding the power button. The phone will reboot. If you edited exactly as above you will see your changes .
I have been doing this for years on my android devices .If you follow the above instructions you will have no issues. If you do happen to get stuck in boot loop . boot into cwm/twrp and run restore of the backup you done in step one.
This was a quick walk thru i wrote for a friend a few days ago.
Good Luck . hope this is understandable i will update it when i have time to make it more structured as well as add how to edit the xml files to change behavior .

Thanks Everyone enjoy.. BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP.

Hi Guys and Gals..

 I am Erica Miller..
i am sure some of you probably have seen me in some of the other forums. I generally do not do this Intro thing.I am fairly knowledgeable with tech stuff. Been using android devices for a few years or so now. I enjoy having Well behaved conversation with like minded people .
What i dislike is Disrespectful people who do not follow rules and who like to pray on others weaknesses
I generally am a nice person to talk to. But i sometimes get very passionate about making a Wrong right. I think its a Woman thing.
Anyway I'm just here to further my knowledge about android and the android devices i own . And hopefully help a few people along the way..
Thanks Everyone...   :-*

Kindle fire is a locked device. Even more so the bootloader is using verification thru secure sbk. (secure boot key.) this will for right now at least prevent anything not signed by Amazon from being flashed to the device. A real shame.
On the up side the nexus 7 is total android experience with the ability to unlock and customize until your totally devoured by all the Android experiences. Lots of mods and roms already and it's quite early in its life.
I think for someone less techno tolerant a fire might be a great choice. We know it will be well made.
Sorry for no introduction Hi all.

Just want to add i have a Acer a500. its awesome for sitting on the couch. But nexus fits my hands and can slip it into a small purse. huge  plus.

Just wanted to update my post . Apparently Amazon did not patch a hole in the ics os. So they have Rooted the fire.. But will the hole be now patched for future users . Will they break the boot loader sbk. I am watching this close . The fire has lots of storage. So im watching it.
