Nexus 7 Help / Open link in new tab
« on: December 09, 2012, 10:17:01 AM »
Using Chrome on the Nexus how can I open a link mentioned on the page I am reading in a new tab?

If I tap the link it overwrites the current page which I don't want to happen.

Much easier if I could right click a mouse!

I think you might be tapping the kernal version Bryn.

No, I'm definitely tapping the Android line.  I've tried tapping fast, slow, and just holding my finger on the line for several seconds, but nothing happens.  I've been sure to tap many times.  As noted above I had no trouble getting the Developer setting to activate.

My Nexus is unrooted, 4.2.1, UK version 32GB.

Puzzling.

Hmmm, no Jelly Bean for me on 4.2.1   I've successfully made myself a developer (hah!) by multipressing the Build Number item, but multiple presses of the Android version line have no effect.

I wonder if they removed it in the latest android builds?

Nexus 7 General Discussion / Re: Airplane mode has flown
« on: November 30, 2012, 04:07:26 PM »
Here is the text of the notification which arrived here on my Nexus 7 tonight:

Flight Mode Support removed By Google

Your device is running Android 4.2 or later.  Please note that Google removed API for turning device into airplane mode in Android 4.2.

There is NO WAY how to programatically turn airplane mode on on (sic) unrooted devices.

For this reason we replaced Airplane Mode with Night Mode that is similar and more configurable.  Visit settings section to configure your night mode.

We are really sorry for inconvenience.

/End of text

I am wondering if this message was generated by Battery Widget Reborn Pro because Airplane Mode has disappeared from that widget but still remains in the pull-down from top-right settings menu panel.

I am on 4.2.1

Nexus 7 General Discussion / Airplane mode has flown

This is exciting - something new everytime I go to the tablet!

This time Google anounce they have removed airplane mode from 4.2 and replaced it with something called night mode.

Never a dull moment........

Nexus 7 General Discussion / Manual Updated
« on: November 30, 2012, 12:26:29 PM »
I'm probably the last one on the planet to have noticed this, but the Nexus manual has been revised to include details of the new functions available with the latest android update.

And the cover is now sky blue  :)

Nexus 7 General Discussion / Case or no case?
« on: November 29, 2012, 05:15:36 PM »
I like the protection my case gives the Nexus, and it was very cheap on ebay.

I like the convenience of the magnet in the case which puts the Nexus in sleep mode when the case is closed.

I like the way the case lets the Nexus stand up on the desk.

However, I liked the Nexus better for holding in my hand when I had no case!

What do you prefer?

Nexus 7 Help / Battery flat in morning
« on: November 29, 2012, 05:10:14 PM »
My battery was down to 1% charge this morning although was still showing around 30% the night before.  I use a case with a magnet which puts the Nexus in sleep mode when the case is closed, and an elastic strap ensures it is closed securely.

This has happened once before.

On occasions, but not every night,  the battery monitoring app I use has showed the rate of discharge suddenly increasing abruptly at about 4 a.m.

I know one of the news apps tries to update in the night, but the magnet switch should ensure the Nexus stays in sleep mode with plenty of charge left.

Any ideas?

Nexus 7 User Tips / Re: You REALLY don't want the battery to die on the N7
« on: November 20, 2012, 04:50:26 AM »
I had a similar problem after battery ran dry after a couple of days on standby. (This surprised me because I thought I was in aeroplane mode and previous rate of discharge should have left me with some charge left).

There was no sign of activity after I plugged charger into the wall socket and it took a lot of button pressing and holding, plugging and unplugging before I got the charging icon showing.  I still don't know what combination of actions got me out of the problem.

It may have been because the 2 parts of the UK charger/plug which have to lock firmly into each other were not properly seated initially.

It gave me a scare :)

Nexus 7 Help / Help with picture viewing
« on: November 17, 2012, 01:03:18 PM »
There must be a few short cuts I can take to display a series of images from a usb flash drive.  Here is what I did:
1. Nexus Media Importer detected the 30+ images I wanted to view, so I selected each in turn (I used multiselect but still had to select every image individually) and pressed Save
2. Went to Download, viewed with Gallery, selected filmstrip mode
3. pinch-enlarged the image to fill the screen, then swiped through the rest of the images to view.
4. After viewing there were 30+  download indications in the notification bar which I had to remove one at a time with a sideways swipe.

Unless I can speed up my act, the Nexus isn't going to replace my laptop as a good way of showing images to friends.  Any way to bulk select? No auto-size and slideshow app built-in? Any way to bulk-remove the multiple download notifications?

 I bet I have missed a few tricks..........Over to you experts :)
