I tried to update after doing the factory reset but would still crash then reboot. I purchased the tablet from a store with a 2 year warranty coverage. So I'll go back to the store and see if I can exchange it for another nexus 7. Thanks everyone for your advice.

I have received the 4.2.1 update several times on my nexus 7. My nexus is using the stock ROM and had never been rooted. Every time I try running the update it would crash in the middle of the installation and give the the exclamation  point android icon then reboot. I'm currently running 4.1.2. It never loaded the 4.2 before the 4.2.1. Is there anything I can do without rooting my nexus to update to the latest firmware?
