Nexus 7 Help / Re: Charging and turning on questions
« on: May 15, 2014, 01:44:04 AM »
thanks Matt, I've bought a better quality lead (hopefully  :) )

So, just one more thing...

Any idea why I have to hold the power switch down for 8 secs or so when powering on? This happens even when battery is charged.

Cheers

Really confused now:

After resetting the tablet the ma had gone up to +723. So I checked the help file to understand what the ma flow was exactly.

Then it went down to -823ma. I thought this might be chrome open so I closed it but the ma stayed the same.

Is there just a big lag on the readings?

Is it +ve will charge and -ve will drain?

After typing this its up to 590ma.

Sorry if I'm being dense but can someone explain what it's telling me?

Cheers

Hi there,

StewMC, it's 1st gen is there more than that? I'm not sure how to check.

matt, Sorry how do you mean draining until it shuts down instead of sleeping? I tried that app but it tells me there's -ve ma, like -2 ma in red. This happens no what charger I use. The app also says 'Discharging' which is alarming. I tried reconnecting many times (why should you need to anyway?) But it always says the same.

What's going there?

S.Prime, we have a cover that turns the screen off. But we were hoping to use it while charging sometimes.

But shouldn't plugging it in power it for use? even if the charging is low, surely you should be able to run a device off the mains indefinitely?

Thanks for your help guys :)

Nexus 7 Help / Charging and turning on questions
« on: May 13, 2014, 01:05:04 PM »
Hi guys,

My son has a Nexus 7 and we're having a couple of issues.

Firstly, if the charge is really low and we plug it in we still can't use it for an hour or so. Perhaps it drains faster than it charges? Is this normal?

It makes it really hard to use as the charge doesn't last that long anyway. Other devices I've used still charge up while you're using them, just at a slower rate.

And also, to turn it on you have to hold the power button for 10secs or so. This coupled with the fact it doesn't come on if the charge is low, or tell you it's low make it frustrating to turn on.

Is this a fault or a bug or something?

Cheers

Sorry, meant to say: when you say open a browser do you mean just open chrome to google or something like that? or do you need to go to a particular web page connected to the hotspot?

Thanks for the help.

Is there any difference in display for the WiFi on Nexus 7? Like this blue grey thing we'd noticed or is that something else?

Hi folks

1) How do you know you are definatley connected to WiFi? It's not just as simple as the WiFi symbol being on (maybe in grey) is it?

My son now has a Nexus 7. When we're out he often wants to connect to a WiFi hotspot.

I go to settings and find the local WiFi connection , say we're in a pub or restaurant, and select it and it seems to connect but things don't really work very well. The WiFi symbol is highlighted but I think it is usually grey.

The other day this happened and his connection kept coming and going. I asked the staff and they said I had to log on and gave me instructions. After I did this everything was fine, just like at home he had constant good connection.

So I'm wondering... is there like 2 stages to connection? One saying you have connection and one saying you have connection and logged on?

It happened yesterday too. The wifi seems to connect in settings but then it didn't work. This time the staff couldn't help.

I don't know much about this kind of thing so I feel I'm missing some vital piece of information.

Any ideas?

2) And also. When the power has been off on his tablet we seem to have to hold the power switch down for 10sec or more to turn it on again. I thought this was a reset function. Why do we need to do it top turn it on?

Cheers

Ok got it!

If anyone's had this and ended up here, for me it was the App Lock app. I had used that to block chrome and settings from my son.

In my user it didn't prompt you for a password but seemed to mess up the controls.

I've switched to another lock app.

Hi folks,

weird one,

My son has a N7 and it works fine. I started another user to access different stuff, but certain apps etc won't respond to my selections. Like Settings, Chrome, ES file manager and a few others.

The buttons on base of screen like home and back etc work but most in the app don't.

Not all apps have problems.

Any ideas?

Cheers
