New Nexus 7 Help (2nd Gen) / Re: Keyboard setting not sticking
« on: November 06, 2013, 11:28:21 PM »
Here's the reply I got from SwiftKey support. May be useful to others.
.............
Google have made a change to their code that means that every time you reboot SwiftKey is deactivated and switched off. When the reboot happens none of our code is running, so there is no change that we can make that would have any effect.

Google did not intend for this to happen, and they have fixed it in a later version, but unfortunately it does often take a while for the updates to get around to everyone.

You can find a fuller explanation here http://support.swiftkey.net/knowledgebase/articles/122554-default-keyboard-reset-on-every-restart-or-reboot-

Right now the only choices are:
1 - continue to use SwiftKey (and turn it on every time you reboot your phone - if you place the SwiftKey icon on your home screen this will only take two clicks)
2 - use another keyboard until it is fixed, then switch back to SwiftKey when you get the update
3 - we can refund you for SwiftKey

Sorry we can't be more help,
.........
Needless to say I didn't accept their kind refund offer. It's a great app.

I'll try uninstalling /reinstalling SwiftKey but will probably just stick it out. I'll also check that Greenify is not hibernating SwiftKey without my knowing it.

Thanks everyone.

New Nexus 7 General Discussion Topics (2nd Gen) / Re: Battery
« on: November 06, 2013, 11:25:38 PM »
Way too many variables for a definitive answer. What does for a while mean? How much life was left when you shut it down? Like Prime said..does it search for a WiFi signal? Rogue apps?

Nexus 7 Help / Re: Nexus not turning on. No solutions working so far.
« on: November 06, 2013, 05:29:06 PM »
If the screen doesn't turn on or a battery icon does not appear, continue with the following steps:

Plug your Nexus 7 into its original ASUS power adapter using the charger's original USB cable for an hour, ensuring that the power cord is securely connected to the tablet and the power adapter. Also, make sure you're using a functioning power outlet.
After an hour, disconnect the charging cable from your device.
Within 10 seconds of disconnecting the cable, quickly connect the cable again.
Press and hold the Power button for at least 15 seconds to see if the device powers on.

Connect the charger to your Nexus 7, then plug the charger in to an outlet.
Press and hold Power until the device powers on, then immediately press and hold Volume Down (while still pressing Power). You will see the word Start with an arrow drawn around it.
Press Volume down until you find Power off, then press Power to select that option.
When your tablet is off, disconnect the charger, then reconnect it.

You should see a battery on your screen that indicates your tablet is charging.
This would be great if you could get it to power on.

Have you ever gotten it to show the charge icon when plugged into a USB port?

New Nexus 7 Cameras (2nd Gen) / Re: Camera Issues

I rarely ever use the rear camera. I thought that it would be a cool addition but I find it cumbersome as well as lacking in the clarity dept.

We  never really know until the update drops. Wait until the advanced users figure out the upgrade issues and then follow their upgrade path.

Sounds like great advice.

Laptop backup?I use a Nandroid backup and Titanium for Apps. Reroot? Possibly. I haven't heard of Voodoo catching up yet. I am not sure of what files are missing when you connect USB?

I have had one case for all three of my Nexus tablets. Unfortunately, it was never on when I dropped two of them on cement. It has saved me though. It's a cheapy 5 below with lots of patina. I love it when it is on the Nexus. it shows character.
