Nexus 7 Audio/Video / Re: Streaming personal media from PC to Nexus 7?
« on: October 08, 2012, 03:50:06 PM »
Since I first bought my N7I have been searching for that media streaming app that will do everything that I want it to.  I did in fact come across the exact app that I was looking for.  It's actually a very close relative to the Motocast/Zumocast family.  If anyone is curious, hit me up with a PM.

Changed mine up a bit.

Is that circle widget, or is it the motorola app circles?

I was replying in response to AndroidBob who said that he used the uninstall option of Tibu which resulted in disabling the app.  Yes you are correct that the system partition can only be used by system apps, but I like to convert some of my user apps to system apps.  This allows a factory reset without the loss of those apps, and also frees up space on the storage partition.  I was also under the impression that system apps are given higher priority of resources.

Freezing is definitely the safer option, but thats what CWM backups are for!

I think that Google intentionally starved us for storage space! The launch of the Nexus 7 came right after the transition over to Play.  Google intentionally doesn't want us to have to store our media on our device.  The available app storage is another thing entirely.  Many of the games inteded for use with the Tegra 3 are larger than 1Gb. So that 8Gb storage, formatted and 4.1.1 installed, leave room for only two or three games. Thats a bummer!  I think Google must have something up their sleeve.

I bought this game for the Wii a few years back.  I'm glad to see that it finally made its way to android.  Its definitely a really fun game.  A first for the physics engine games.  Theres even an "OCD" mode for those that are game perfetionists.

Nexus 7 Games / Re: Wiimote Bluetooth Classic Controller working!

Thanks for the tip! will definitely give that a try when I get home.  I have a used sixaxis PS3 controller that I bought to use with the games that will accept it, but the left joystick sticks.  I look forward to playing my emulated games with the original controllers.

For clarification, un-installing through Titanum Back up is NOT the same as freezing the app.  Freezing is the same as disabling the app, whis is a seperate funtion for TiBu.  The only reason that the apps are shown on the bottom of the list in TiBu is if there is a current back-up of the app.  The backed-up app will appear in strikethrough. Disabling or freezing them will remove them from system menus as funtional apps, however they are still taking up the same ammount of storage space.  With a device that has a limited storage space, this is definitely a factor whether or not to completely remove the app or to disable it.

I use lookout.  Great features for a free app!

From what I've heard the 16GB is sold out on Google Play.  I pick up two of the 16Gb from Newegg, my favorite electronics retailer.  My local stores had none in stock. A few of the other reputable online retailers were also out of stock on the 16GB.  I know that If I ever have a problem with the device, Newegg is really good about warranties and replacements.

I just use Stickmount and browse the files manually.  Seems to work great for all file formats.

Nexus 7 Apps / Re: Skype for N7
« on: October 05, 2012, 07:44:28 PM »
The only reason that I would consider using skype anymore would be if I had no other choice but to have a video chat with someone who absolutely could not use Google Talk.  Gtalk is awesome.  You can combune up to eight video feeds simutaneously.  You can watch a youtube video together, share a window from your desktop, and all kinds of possibilities! I definitely recommend looking into it.  Gtalk is the app that the video capabilities of android devices are designed for! I have had many issues with Skype in the past, and was never able to overcome the lackluster experience.

I would suggest LastPass for the password auto fil.  You sign into LastPass, and then all of your passwords are generated at random with encryption.  I would definitely look into it!

I have videos that I have compressed for use with a PS3.  They are *.mp4 using H.264/AAC.  They seem to play fine with the stock video player.
