Nexus 7 General Discussion / Re: Switching from Kindle Fire to Nexus...

Sure. I just don't like doing business with a company like that, and would rather have all my books in one place.

I've never liked 10" tablets. Too heavy, too big.

Probably stupid question... Where do you get books for Alkiko and MOon+? They won't open amazon and B&N books will they?

I can get my kindle books on the nexus through the kindle app. I was just wondering how to move them to google play. The whole calibre debug process looks like a pain, and frankly, it appears amazon books are cheaper than google books anyway, so I'll prolly keep buying there.

The two seasons of tv I bought are just gone now.

That is exactly why I got rid of the kindle. I could tell with how restrictive they are that I didn't want to get too deep into their ecosystem, or I could never leave.

I bought a Kindle Fire HD. I quickly became very angry that I was forced to use inferior software products when it came to launcher, browser, keyboard, etc.

So I took it back and got a Nexus, and am much happier with it.

But a few issues...

1. I bought some seasons of shows on my Kindle Fire. Are those gone now? Is there ANY way I can get them to my Nexus now?

2. Amazon has really hacked me off here. I would like to de-amazon my life and wholly embrace the Google ecosystem. Is there any way to remove the DRM on all the books and music I've bought from Amazon and move it over to the Google Play reader/music player?

3. Does google have a cloud drive like Amazon's?

4. Does Google have anything resembling Amazon Prime, with free books and videos?

Nexus 7 Vs. The Competition / Re: Kindle Fire HD vs. Nexus 7
« on: November 25, 2012, 03:04:25 PM »
I just went and exchanged my Kindle Fire HD for a Nexus 7, and let me tell you, the Nexus is the far superior device.

Amazon's Kindle Fire HD has great hardware. Beautiful screen, great sound, etc. But its software is absolute garbage. The home launcher (Carousel) is for children or old people who can't use a computer. You can't use widgets. Can't use folders. Oh, and it advertises to you constantly.

Then, you can't install a third party keyboard. So if you like the ability to "swype" type, too bad. Can't be done unless you root it, and then sideload a keyboard into the system apps, voiding your warranty.

And the Amazon browser, Silk... well let's just say it sucks and leave it at that. You can't use Opera, Dolphin, Chrome, Firefox, or anything else unless you backdoor it in.

No google play store, Amazon only, which basically cuts your choice of apps down by a factor of 10.

Meanwhile, the Nexus pretty much lets you do whatever you want.

Now, let's talk hardware...

The Nexus is thinner. It fits comfortably into one hand, unlike the wider kindle. The nexus is noticably lighter. It fits easily into my jeans pocket.

Amazon claims its dual speaker dolby is superior to the mono speaker on Nexus. It isn't. I can tell little to no difference, and If I had to pick, I'd say the nexus sounds better.

Amazon claims its dual antenna is faster for the web. It isn't. Especially when you are shackled to that crap browser they have.

All in all... the Nexus is a far superior device. Get one, and save yourself a lot of headache. As for your PDF issue, on a nexus, you have access to every pdf reader on the market. On amazon, you will just have kindle.

The ONLY thing I miss about my Kindle vs. the Nexus... Amazon Prime free video. I wish Google would come up with something similar for its Play store. I would gladly move all my Amazon books and Music over to the Google world, but I don't care to figure out how to strip the DRM I'm sure is on there.

Nexus 7 Accessories / Re: DODO case
« on: November 25, 2012, 02:40:32 PM »
I love the looks of the Dodo case, and the fact that it is light and feels like a book. Also, the magnet wake is a must for me.

My only concern... does it really stand up well on a table? I like to read while I eat out, and I hate a case that falls over. The plastic clip seems a bit, um, well ghetto, but if it works, fine.
