Nexus 7 Apps / Re: A record number of updates?
« on: December 06, 2012, 02:05:54 PM »
I saw the updates on my notification screen but didn't have time to accept them.  Now I can't find a way to accept the updates.  Can anybody explain how to find out if an app is up to date and, if not, to accept the update?

Nexus 7 Connect (MicroUSB, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, Pogo Pin) / Re: Foxfi

Sorry that there hasn't been much activity concerning your question. I am not 100% sure but I think that the Square is not compatible with the Nexus 7 at the moment.

Not sure if you are talking about Square Register or Square Wallet.  I have Square Wallet on my N7 and have used it to make payments in stores that provide WiFi access.  It is not very convenient because I have to remember to connect to the store's WiFi before I get to the cashier.  As others say in this thread, Square Register is not compatible with your N7.

Hello,

I am in the UK and looking to purchase a Nexus 7 however i saw a brief post somewhere saying not to go aborad with it as the content is country specific?

I am moving to Australia mid 2013 so i dont want to purchase a Nexus if it becomes useless when i take it down under.

Can anyone confirm this? Many thanks

Based on my experience with my N7 purchased in the US and transported to Mexico, all the content that I purchased in the US (whether downloaded to my N7 or not) is available to me in Mexico.  I cannot buy any additional content in Mexico and cannot even acquire free items from Google Play while in Mexico.
A friend who shares files with me on Google Drive obtained a free book from Google Play and put it on my Google Drive.  After I allowed offline access to this file on my N7 (in other words I forced it to download to my N7) the free book mysteriously showed up in Google Play.

Nexus 7 Audio/Video / Re: HDMI Output
« on: December 05, 2012, 04:26:33 PM »
Does anyone know how Google demonstrated the ability to show the device screen on a large screen display. Like to project my device to the TV.

I saw photographs of the N7 that was used in those demonstrations.  It had an HDMI port.  Ordinary customers like you and me cannot buy that version of the N7.

Are any other apps in Spanish? Such as Play music? Might be a setting with the Google account and not the device.

I have a US account, associated with a US vredit card. and a Nexus 7 purchased in the US.  All my Google and N7 account settings specify the language as English.  At the moment I am in Mexico.  Google Play is in Spanish and all prices are in Mexican pesos on my N7 here.  Even using a Windows computer and going to the Google Play website I have great difficulty getting English, and when I do find English the prices are still in Mexican pesos.

However, on my N7 Google search still gives me US results, while on my computer the website www.google.com cannot be reached from here (instead I am redirected to www.google.com.mx and get results pertinent to Mexico -- kinda silly if I am looking up a hotel in Harrisburg PA)

I don't live in the US, so I couldn't download it from the Google play store. Here I found a copy.

Thanks so much.  Just what I needed. It seems really silly not to be able to get a free book from Google when outside the US.  I hope they figure out how to activate at least a partial Google Play Books.

New Member Introductions / Re: Hola Amigos! greetings from Mexico!

Anyway i plan to use the N7 mainly as an ebook reader and kinda lika a satnav GPS system for my car.

I am also in Mexico.  Get the OSMbrowser app, because for some reason Google maps is lacking some major highways (carreterras de cuota) that have been open for several years.  These highways are on openstreetmap though, and OSMbrowser will show them to you.  For detailed local coverage, I find the Google maps are excellent.

Yes, it is recommended that each user has an individual Google account. Apps are not shared. You can change the user from the lock screen or from the right pulldown menu. A user can be created from menu > settings > users.

Thanks, I added a user with no trouble.  Very easy to choose a user at the startup screen (after you give the owner and the user nicknames you will recognize -- this is done in the settings screen for Users).  Each user has his/her own apps, but if the owner has an app, it does not appear that any additional storage space is taken up for the app itself when installed by the second user.

This is a fantastic addition in Android 4.2.

Does anyone know if the N7 charger can be used on a Kindle? (They both use the same cable)

Where did you order and how much were they? I need a cable myself. I have found that generic cables don't fit well and if they do don't charge. I can usually use them to transfer data.

I ordered online from cellphoneshop.net.  $2.99 US dollars each cable, plus shipping unless you get above their free shipping threshold.

My cheap replacement cables arrived and work fine.

Does anybody have an explanation of multi-user?  Does each user have to have a Google account? Are apps shared? Where to you get an option to say who you are?

My USB cable that plugs into the black adapter stopped working.  It can't be used by any device for charging or data transfer.  What a surprise... physically it looks fine and did not suffer any maltreatment.

Fortunately I found that a Kindle cable works for charging the N7 with the N7's own adapter.  But I have to borrow that cable from a Kindle user.

Other USB cables with micro-USB plugs (such as for cell phones) do not work for charging my N7, so I ordered some new N7 cables.

My N7 upgraded to Android 4.2 without my doing anything.  There is a new + sign on the startup screen which I don't know what it does.  I think the clipped clock which previously appeared in landscape mode has been repaired.

Surprisingly, the "settings" button and the internet status disappeared from the pulldown notification screen.

I was hoping that the new gmail app would let us use the whole screen in landscape mode to see a message, but that's not the case.  Or -- if somebody knows how to do that -- please reply to this post.

@bjs229  Can you give me a URL for the Google forum you used?  I have been unable to find a Nexus7 forum that belongs to Google
