Nexus 7 Apps / Re: Any Help With Go Launcher Ex?
« on: July 30, 2012, 06:29:35 PM »
Hey radiocycle.  Iv'e used GL. Ex as my default launcher since I received my NX7 a couple of weeks ago. I really like the sheer amount of customization possible with this launcher. I am also using a clock and weather widget courtesy of the'beautiful Widgets app, as the default GL. Clock. The one thing that I really love about GL. Ex, is the scrollable app dock at the bottom of the homescreen.  I can pretty much put every app. That I use on a daily basis right there on the homescreen, in a continuous scrolling 'ribbon'. Since I'm using a beautiful widgets clock and weather widget,.and a custom wallpaper courtesy of 'picspeed ' wallpapers,  my GL ex homescreen Doesn't look any less customized than the default launcher, which I've customized, as well.

But, as mentioned, the big reason that I use GL ex, besides the countless themes available for download, is that scrollable app dock. Now one thing, when you download and activate any 3rd party launcher, as long as you do not check the 'use as default ' box when you install GL. Ex,  you will always have the option to use GL or the default launcher whenever you unlock the tablet or hit the homescreen icon. That way you'll always have the option to use the default launcher if you're really partial to some of it's settings.

As far as getting your default items back as they appeared in the stock launcher, As I mentioned, as long as you don't set GL as your default launcher, you should always have the option to use the original launcher anytime you want.

I hope you enjoy GL. Ex. It's a well made, well supported app with tons of customization options. One of my favorites.

Greetings, Kyi. I also ordered a very nice case from amazon, as well. Iv'e always liked the way amazon does business, and they seem to have a wide variety of cases available for the NX7, at very reasonable prices. as far as apps go, the 2 apps I immediately downloaded to my NX7 were beautiful widgets, and go-launcher ex.  The former, for the incredible number of beautiful clocks and weather widgets, and the latter, because of the sheer amount of customization possible for homescreens, app docks, app drawer, and transition animations. Also, one of my favorite apps is 'go keyboard'. It's amazing how cool a custom background behind a cool keyboard can be. Loads of themes, as well.

These are a few of my early downloads. I'm sure you will get many replies with others.

Totally agree with you on the 'reboot' idea.  I think that moviegoers, in general, are sick of those. We all know How batman became batman. Don't need to waste valuable film space by telling the story again. Best, I think, to just continue the storyline.

One thing that I do think will have to happen, though, and it would be tricky, is that I think if the batman franchise is going to continue, they will have to, at some point, bring back the Joker. He is too iconic a character, and too important to batman legend, to never be heard from again. I realize that Heath Ledger, God rest his soul, made the character what it is. But one thing that might allow them to pull it off, is the fact that you couldn't recognize Heath Ledger at all! So as far as reproducing the look, mannerisms, and voice of the joker, that would seem easy enough. Even though we would all know that it isn't Heath.

Actually, S.Prime, go launcher has been my launcher of choice on my galaxy s2 for some time now. I was anxious to try it out on the NX7, and it seems to run very well on it. I tried ADW launcher on my gs2, but the level of customization, and the sheer number of themes available from GL was just much higher. The one thing that I love most about GL, is the scrollable app dock on the homescreens. I can put almost every app that I use on a daily basis right on that homescreen ribbon. By comparison, ADW seemed a bit plain. The Launcher that I would really like to try is 'Shell 3d'. It appears to be absolutely gorgeous. But at $14, I'd have to take out a loan to buy it!

But, as I mentioned, I'm very pleased with the look and the performance of go launcher on the NX7. I do run one of the clock and weather widgets from beautiful widgets on top of it, though. But the app itself has a lot to offer in the way of looks and customization. And it doesnt hurt that 'project butter' and tegra3 allow it to run even better.

Hey, comiskeybum. I've seen DKR 3 times now. I'm as avid a batman fan as youll find anywhere. as a comic collector for over 40 years now, The Dark Knight has always been my favorite, by far. Being an artist, as well, The batman is one of my favorite subjects. Here's my thoughts on your comments:

Yes, I think that it actually was Bruce and Salina that Alfred saw at the cafe. That particular ending not only allowed moviegoers to leave the theater excited that Bruce Wayne survived, and that there certainly would be a renewing of Bruce and Alfreds friendship, but it certainly left a future return of Christian Bale at least a remote possibility.

As far as 'robin' is concerned, I've always thought (strongly) that there should NEVER, under any circumstance, ever be another attempt at a Robin in any future Batman movie. The Lame attempt at the Christopher Odonnel version of the character a few films back was an absolute disaster. Since I truely believe that the Nolan/Bale version of the Dark Knight is the truest version of the comic book character, there would be absolutely no such thing as a smart-mouthed robin popping off to Batman every 5 minutes. In other words, it's the DK's way.....or the Highway!. Now, with that said, a possible Joseph Gordon-Levitt version of a robin (or possibly Nightwing), I could possibly get excited about, simply because It would give us an older, more seasoned, more 'adult' version of the character. Keep in mind, now, that the various versions of robin throughout the comic years, has always been a young 13 to 20 year old.
we'll see.

As far as Bruce Wayne being alive. If you remember lucius Fox, When he was explaining the new 'Batwing' aircraft to Bruce for the first time, mentioned to Bruce that the 'autopilot' feature wasn't functional on it. That came back into play towards the end of the movie when batman was about to transport the bomb, attached to the aircraft, out to gotham harbor to drop it in. Batman knew, and so did the crowd standing watching, that since there was no autopilot to allow the aircraft to 'fly itself' to the harbor, that he would have to do so himself. As a result, he would be 'blown up' along with the bomb. But what Batman also knew, was that he/Bruce Wayne had secretly repaired the autopilot feature on the Batwing sometime back, so he knew that he would be able to bail-out of the aircraft, and it would, indeed, pilot itself out onto the harbor. (veeeerrry clever, huh.) So everyone watching saw the explosion, and assumed that Batman died because of it.

As far as any future DK movie is concerned. Christian Bale went on record as saying, that if Christopher Nolan wasn't coming back for a 4th movie, then he was also done with the franchise. But recently, christopher nolan has been quoted as saying (I wish I had the link to that interview) that he wouldn't totally rule out directing another batman film. If that were true, then certainly we could probably count on Bale, as well as the rest of the cast, getting back on board. We can only HOPE that this is true. Keep in mind, also, that Christopher Nolan is also directing the new
superman 'Man of steel' film.

So, comiskeybum, I got a little long-winded here, but those are my views on the points that you raised. Lets hope that any future installments of this great franchise, will be as well done as the series that mr. Nolan has given us.

Thanks for listening.

Being an artist, I was really looking forward to testing out 'Sketchbook Pro' on the NX7. And, although this tablet seems to be more responsive to the stylus than any of the other tabs I've owned (galaxy tab 2 7.0, blackberry playbook, and Acer iconia),  it's still not a perfect experience. (Finger works much better, though  ;)

Had the opportunity to see Lisas review a few days ago, and enjoyed it thoroughly. Spot on. I was particularly intrigued by her mention of the 'external storage' opportunities available as a result of rooting the NX7. I wasn't really gonna consider rooting mine since there's no uninstallible carrier affiliated 'bloatware' hogging up our memory. But the thought of being able to make use of external hard drives, or flash drives, may be too strong to resist.

Actually, have had my NX7 for 2 weeks now, and the following are my favorites to date:

Beautiful widgets
Chrome.... (Although I have side-loaded an early version of the dolphin HD browser, along with the apk for the adobe flash player, to run flash sites)
Flipboard.... (although not totally optimized for tablet, it looks and runs great. my favorite newsfeed app, by far)
Sketchbook pro....(being an artist, I was really looking forward to the extra screen real estate on the NX7. It works very well, but It's still not the 'perfect experience' with any stylus ive tried).

Hello all. I've had my new 16gb NX7 for about 2 weeks now. Ordered mine thru Gamestop, and miraculously, they called me 3 days after I placed the order to inform me that my tablet was ready for me to pick up. Really hard to believe I had it in my hands that quickly. Well, the device is everything advertised and more. Smooth, slick, and 'tegra3' fast. Clearly, imho, the best that android has to offer, to date. I believe that google/asus has now set the bar for the 7" form factor, and everyone else (including apple) is giving chase. I'm looking forward to chatting with all of you here about this incredible device.

Thanks to all of you.
