Nexus 7 Help / Re: Ant+, does it work on the Nexus 7 or not?
« on: August 24, 2012, 06:39:52 AM »
I've got an FR60, it's a couple of years old.  I'm thinking of upgrading to a GPS model, since I do more hiking, running and nordic skiing these days.  The GPS and map utilities are pretty cool.

Garmin comes with an Ant+ USB dongle for syncing to Garmin Connect.  The Garmin Fit App in the Play Store says it requires an Ant+ enabled phone.

I'm not really sure the Nexus 7 is Ant+ enabled, I only got the idea because there are several Ant+ apps that say they are compatible.  I suspect that only means that the software will install, not the full functionality required to use it.

Thanks

I use my Nexus to log workouts, so I'd like to feed my heart rate to my apps.  I'd like to feed my Garmin HRM to my log apps.

In the Play store, I've installed several Ant+ apps that say they are compatible, but when I run them, they all tell me my device does not support Ant+.

Is there something I'm missing, like external hardware?

Thanks

The Double Twist client won't run on my Win 7 64bit PC, it installs fine, but the it won't run.

I use Winamp on my PC, so I sprung the $20 for Winamp Pro, it allows wireless syncing to any Android device.  It works pretty well.

" battery would be dead quickly without being plugged into the car's power source."

I would expect that, Fortunatley, It can be plugged in in the car.

The issue with Sygic was that it was sucking up battery when I wasn't using it.  The app wasn't running (as far as I could tell).   As long as the app was installed, it was high on the battery use list.

NavFree doesn't do that.   I've got to try it out on a long trip this weekend.

Thanks.  I've installed Sygic and NavFree.  I haven't used them yet for any long trip.  Both look good, but Sygic seemed to be sucking up the battery, it was the #2 drain after the display.  Is that normal?

Nexus 7 Help / Re: How to delete non-gmail email accounts?
« on: August 13, 2012, 10:52:11 AM »
I found a solution short of factory reset.  I had to grant the invasive privileges to complete the set up, then there was an option to delete the account once set up was complete.

Nexus 7 Help / How to delete non-gmail email accounts?
« on: August 12, 2012, 05:28:20 PM »
I started to set up my work email (exchange) , but the Nexus is forcing me to "Activate device administrator", which grants access to the admins at work to "Erase all data", "Lock the screen" and "Disable cameras' among other things.  So I cancelled the set up process.  If they insist I have 24\7 access they can provide me the device on which to do it.

Any way, for the last week, I've been constantly notified that "Security update requires" for my work email.  I can not find the account anywhere, so I can't delete the partial set up.

Anyone have the answer?

Thanks

Nexus 7 Audio/Video / Re: Streaming personal media from PC to Nexus 7?
« on: August 12, 2012, 05:15:00 PM »
Thanks.

I have Plex for my TV, it is stable and reliable.  I really don't like the 1 level indexing system for personal media though.  For example, I have a Photo folder; in photos, I have a folder for each year, within each year I have folders for events.  Plex has 1100 photos under 2912.  I can't drill to the 37 for Son's Birthday.

I'm checking out Orb right now, as well.  It works well enough to stream music to my receiver.  Hopefully it works as well with everything to my tablet.  The mobile client is $10, though, so it better work.

Thanks, I'll check out  Es File explorer.  Is there a PC client required to index media or anything?  I didn't see mention of one on the Play page.

Nexus 7 Audio/Video / Streaming personal media from PC to Nexus 7?
« on: August 06, 2012, 08:26:03 AM »
Hi all.

I'd like to be able to access all my personal media without having to manage syncing, at least around the house.  What are the best options for streaming movies, music and photos from a PC to the Nexus 7?

I've been trying out Skifta.  It works, but it's a little quirky.

I have Plex on my home TV, but I haven't bought it for Android yet.

Any other options? What are others doing?

I think MUA support would be a big selling point on higher end tablets.

My family has an iPad 2, I never use it because I can't personalize anything.  I bought the Nexus 7 to be mine.  At $200, I'm happy with single user.  But if I'm to shell out $600 - $800 on a tablet as a laptop replacement, or home entertainment device, I don't want to have to share email (or log into a web page every time I want check email), and I don't want to listen to my kids fight over you spent the points I earned in game "x".   And I don't want my kids hitting the buy button when my credit card is in the Play store.

Does anyone have a recombination? Experience?

Thanks

Doubletwist failed to install on mine, I assumed it did not support JB.  I don't have my tablet with me at work, or I'd post the exact error.

I just drag and drop media, however, every file I move; MP3, FLAC, MP4, AVI, WMA, gives me a warning that the format is unsupported and may not play on the device.  They all do, but the warning is a PIA.

Clearly I'm missing something.
