If it's of any use. I use Navfree. Download the maps you want from their easy to use selection and that's it.
Plan route, change route anything offline. Works perfectly well and got me all around France in Summer.
You do need to doanload postcode/Zip code support seperately - still free though.

Is there still no news on a cheaper way to replace screen?
My third Nexus now has a broken screen. Small knock on the side and an almost invisible crack has rendered it useless. I now have 2 16GB Nexus bricks! £400 and nowt to show for it.

I live in UK so prices are in pounds, but I think the same principle in USA.
My Nexus cost £199. I was quoted by the store £180 for screen fix. So I just got a new one. Nexus since dropped to £149, so cost MORE to replace screen than get a new one now.
Also, I called ASUS support and they refused to give me a price. They said it would be (roughly, can't recall exact numbers) £50 + shipping just to look at it. Cost to fix (labour and parts) would be added, but they had "no idea" what the final price would be.

Anyone know if/when replacement screens are likely to be available? I still have a broken nexus I would like to repair at some point.
Sending back cost more than buying a new one (which I have done) so that is not an option, but would like to repair the damaged one at some point.
thanks

Overall I like it. I find some apps are not compatible with it or crash quite a bit on Android as it has to suppor tso many devices I guess. Also, a lot of apps I want seem to come out on IOS and not on Android.
Overall and for the price it is good.

Send it back. My first one had screen lift, which I put up with, but then the screen failed entirely so I took it back to the store who swapped it. They said they had been inundated with returns for faulty screens.
Current one has good build quality.

Talk about a weak flame attempt. Bring something helpful to the table will ya?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
If you are referring to my post I will repond. Firstly, I was giving first hand experience of the exact problem the OP is concerened about, so input is legitimate. Secondly, I made a comment based on your childish and really rather unhelpful response to the OP. As for bringing something helpful to the table - I suggest you look through some of my posts and you will find that I have resolved someones problem that no one else could, despite many suggestions, assisted and given advice on some good ways to use SatNav on Nexus and I actually responded, in this post, with something relevant. Have a nice day.

I can answer from experience.
I am on my 3rd Nexus. the second dropped a short distance (low table) onto soft carpet and was in a highly recommended cover case. It broke the screen and was useless.
I know this is not the fault of ASUS, but I was, and am, surprised that it broke after such a small knock.
I have had mobiles that can stand 50+ drops and others that are delicate - devices vary in strength and my experience is that a slight breeze could break my Nexus.
I hope my experience does not upset anyone on here that reacts like a teenager in a PlayStation Vs XBOX debate when anything not 100% positive is said about their beloved Nexus or Android OS.

I have used the N7 when I went to France. I downloaded FREESAT and the map pack for France.
I used WIFI when I put the address in. However, if you use this app please remember that you have to download postcodes seperately.
However, this App DOES recalcualte routes on the fly. I know this as I frequently took the wrong roads and it recalcualted on the fly.
The app and N7 worked well togethor (until the N7 broke). There is voice too.
Only slight issue with it is that it seems to favour main roads, like motorways, even if there is probablya quicker route. I tested it my home town also before relying in it in France and would often take very strange and convoluted routes when there was a road straight to destination.
However, for big journies it is excellent IMHO.

Competition is good for consumers. I really don't understand when I see people hating products they see as the natural commercial competition to their own devices.
TBH I thought this was limited to the XBOX vs Playstation crowd - how sad that isn't true.

My first Nexus had screen lift, which I ignored, but within a couple of weeks the screen kept failing. Eventually after less than a month it died. I returned it to Tescos and they asked what the problem was as they had been "inundated" with returns due to failures. Most with screens.
My replacement dropped short distance (yes my fault) but was in a protective case and onto a carpet (from a low desk) and the screen cracked and it is now useless. You can't blame ASUS for people dropping things but I was amazed at how easily it broke.
I am on my third one now in 3 months and I get application errors so constantly I want to throw it out of the window anyway. I can barely play a game or do anything other than basic stuff without getting app crashes.
If I could go back I would never buy one. Some people may think that is unfair, but it is simply my opinion.

Can't seem to get into recovery mode now. It just loads up normally when I try. I have tried uninstalling Tower Defence and reinstalling - crashes straight away. Went to look at my reviews on Google pLay and within seconds I got "Google Play has Stopped Working". This is happening with multiple apps now and really frsutrating. Other than web browsers I would say I get this on 50% of other apps unless they are simple torches or incredibly basic apps. I certainly get in on over half my games. I have had 3 Nexus 7s now and not one has lasted much more then 4 weeks! Seriously considering selling this and getting an a pad with an OS that actually works.

I think any RMA will be with ASUS, not Google, and they are almost certainly never going to give you a 32GB version for a 16GB with screen lift.
the 16GB one is not being retired, so why would they. In fact, the chances are you will get a reconditioned one if you went down this route....or maybe your one back with some super-glue on it!
