The Lounge: Off Topic Forum / Tapatalk HD login problem
« on: January 30, 2013, 07:03:41 PM »
I'm attempting to use Tapatalk HD for the first time, but I can't seem to log in to the Android Community forum.

Using my browser on my PC I log in with no problem whatsoever. But when I attempt the login via Tapatalk HD, I get an error msg. that my ID and/or pw is not valid.

Am I missing something here? Some setting or something? I've tried this multiple times on the N7, so unless I'm making a pw error each and every time, then I don't understand why I'm unable to log in.

Any suggestions welcome. Thanks.

Nexus 7 Apps / need old version of Swype
« on: December 28, 2012, 06:09:17 PM »
I updated to the latest version 1.3 beta of the Swype keyboard -- big mistake. Never saves anything in the custom dictionary; in fact the update deleted every entry that I did have in the dict. Often auto-spacing doesn't work, which is a swype nightmare. Anyone have a suggestion on how to go back to the older version?

Cheers, & happy holidays, all.

The Lounge: Off Topic Forum / WiFi extender/booster recommendation?
« on: December 22, 2012, 03:42:51 PM »
Can anyone recommend a good WiFi extender/booster? One that won't have to be reset (and reconfigured) constantly (as some require per the reviews I've read).
Thanks.

Nexus 7 Apps / Feedly crashes
« on: December 13, 2012, 10:06:22 AM »
I track a lot of blogs, forums, etc. And need a great news/rss reader. I'm using Feedly right now but it's been a major pain in the butt. It's fine for reading headers and a brief intro to the article/post, but 80% of the time it crashes when I click on the link to read the full post.

The only way to recover from the lock-up is to clear data (just clearing cache won't even work).

I have sent so many crash reports, but there hasn't been an update since September.

Any suggestions for a good news reader? I understand Currents was just updated, but I also have read that it's a memory hog. Also don't know if it will let me add in all my blogs and forums.  Feedly is still the best I've found for my needs but I don't enjoy using it because of all the crashes.

Nexus 7 Apps / SoundCloud
« on: December 06, 2012, 01:18:40 PM »
Hey, all,

Android Police and other sites have posted about a new UI update to the SoundCloud app.  Apparently you can record with this app, but none of the posts mentioned much about this. Does anyone know what the length limitation is to a SoundCloud recording? For example, could I use it to record a full-length song that lasts, say, between 3 to 4 minutes?

Nexus 7 Apps / A record number of updates?
« on: December 05, 2012, 07:06:56 PM »
I was using my N7 last night (Tuesday) until just after midnight. Turned it off, went to bed, and have been working all day --

So just turned it on around 5pm and was greeted with *eleven* app updates: 9 were automatic, and 2 I had to install manually. Here's the list in no particular order:

HD Widgets
IMDb Movies & TV
Falcon Pro (for Twitter)
Evernote
Kindle
Pocket
Freeze!
Global Outbreak
ES File Explorer File Manager
Google Search
Dropbox

Anyone recall the largest number of updates you've seen at one time?

Nexus 7 Android OS (Jelly Bean) / New 4.2.1 issue?
« on: December 04, 2012, 12:56:35 PM »
Hello....

My N7 was updated toward the end of last week to 4.2.1.

Since then, the N7 has spontaneously rebooted at least 10 times that I am aware of. It will reboot in the middle of a game (CrossMe Color), while I'm in a web browser (Chrome), and once when I was simply swiping from one home page to another.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Nexus 7 Apps / CrossMe Color
« on: November 26, 2012, 12:59:50 PM »
My app addiction has been CrossMe Color (by DynaMix) for weeks now.  It's difficult to explain but you can take a look at a blog post I did a while back in which I posted a before and after screen print.

http://martyhalpern.blogspot.com/2012/09/crossme-color-app-for-android.html

At the time of my blog post, I was just getting into this puzzle game; I'm now finding that each puzzle takes longer and is, obviously, more complicated.

In fact, I've actually come up with four puzzles so far that I am unable to complete as I can't find a beginning point, so to speak. If anyone has been playing CrossMe Color and been successful getting through a lot of the levels, I'd like to hear from you. Maybe you can give me some mini assistance to help me get through a couple of these puzzles that I'm having difficulty with.

Cheers,

Hello, All --

An update to an app I had acquired on Amazon had been released in Google Play on November 17. So I'm waiting like a week now and still no update had come through from Amazon.  I realize that Amazon isn't as fast releasing updates as Google Play, but still, a week seemed to be taking too long.

In the meantime, I believe it was around mid-week last, Amazon released an update to their Amazon App Store app, to correct some of the issues (multiple logins, etc.) stemming from the JB 4.2 upgrade.

Anyhow, to make a long story short, the Amazon App Store app update appeared to have turned off all my notifications. So here I was expecting to receive a notification for an update (actually two of them), but the notifications were turned off. I just happened to be playing around with the App Store app, when into settings, and discovered that all the notifications were unchecked. Re-checked them, and lo and behold, when I looked at my list of apps, three of them (including the two I had been waiting for) were tagged as having updates available.

So, just an FYI if you've installed the Amazon App Store app update (there was another one since then), be sure to check your notifications and make sure all is copacetic.

Cheers,

Nexus 7 General Discussion / Amazon apps requiring login
« on: November 18, 2012, 02:30:26 PM »
Hello forum folks -

Every once in a while I'll snag an Amazon free app of the day, mostly games.

I noticed this past week that the games require that I login to the Amazon app store before the game will load. If I skip the login the game simply closes.

Is anyone else experiencing this? If not, what am I doing that is causing this?

Bottom line, I won't be able to play any of these games when I don't have wireless access.

Cheers,

Hi All -

As the subject says, I have the Logitech/Android Bluetooth keyboard --

It worked fairly well the first time I used it, but since then it's been all crap. I make the Bluetooth connection but then it only lasts a few seconds. I've used brand new batteries, so that's not the issue.

Once the Bluetooth connection is made, I'll tab to a browser page or gmail -- what's that, a few seconds? -- and by the time I get to the input page I've already lost the connection.

Any suggestions?

This bloody keyboard was not cheap, but I'm ready to throw it against the wall.

Nexus 7 General Discussion / Google search launches Firefox!
« on: November 01, 2012, 02:05:24 PM »
I'm sitting here doing a Google search on the N7; I also checked the tracking status of a package (info snagged from an email, courtesy of the latest update to Google Now) --

and I'm scratching my head wondering why these actions are automatically launching Firefox instead of Chrome.

I dislike Firefox, and only use it for access to the flash plug-in.

Anyone else experiencing this?
I guess if I didn't have Firefox installed, then Chrome would be the only available browser, yes?

Nexus 7 Apps / Gmail app and Google alerts -- not!
« on: September 25, 2012, 05:12:22 PM »
Hi,

I work in the publishing field, and I have a number of Google alerts set up for various books and authors. I wanted to check an alert in my inbox yesterday, had the N7 on, so used it to launch the Gmail app. I found the email alert, clicked on it, and all it did was refresh my inbox. Tried again, same response. I closed the app, and opened the Chrome app, to check my Gmail account through the browser. Opened email, found the alert, clicked on it -- the email opened, but it was blank! Literally, no content at all.

WTF? So I closed Chrome, opened the Firefox app (which I have just for the purpose of Flash access), signed in to my Gmail acct, found the email alert, opened it -- and there it was, the alert with all its content, including the active link to the book review.

I went to the Play Store, thinking I could contact the developer of the Gmail app, but no developer was listed. And the link to the Support site was worthless; just some useless FAQs -- no actual ability to contact anyone to tell them of this issue.

Anyhow, just wanted to share it here. I can't believe that a Google-created alert is unreadable by either of the Google apps. Glad I had Firefox available.

Nexus 7 Apps / Biz card reader/scanner
« on: September 13, 2012, 01:10:03 PM »
Hi, all,

Has anyone tried a business card reader/scanner app on the N7 -- and found one that works?

I realize it would be a bit tricky with only the one camera, but I read the other day that people were able to use the Barcode Scanner+ app with success.

Cheers,
- mh
