On a cruise, international flight, hotel, etc. the problem is always the same. Exorbitant prices with dial-up speed.

Since rooting voids the warranty, I plan on waiting for a bit to make sure nothing is wrong with the tablet.
After that, the answer is 100% YES !!!!!

So a new article in PCAuthority states that you can't use the Micro-USB port for memory expansion: http://www.pcauthority.com.au/News/307098,no-usb-storage-for-googles-nexus-7-tablet.aspx
Highly disappointing.
Does this mean that what can be transferred to it is limited as well??
You can transfer anything you like up to the max memory by using your computer and a USB cord. The other problem can be solved by rooting the device...

doesnt this whole limited storage/lack of sd card only make sense if the tab were connected to a mobile 3g/4g network? then i would expect the complaints to be minimal.. with verizon "upgrading" their data plans to account for multiple devices, i could see that working out. maybe with the 2nd gen.
Not everybody needs/wants or can afford that kind of phone.

I mentioned this elsewhere but the Nexus 7 has already been rooted and 'StickMount' has already been installed by a hacker onto his Nexus 7 and he says that he is able to use a standard usb flash drive with it.
That's kinda what I thought it would take... Nice to know for sure that it works.

I know there isn't a lot of information yet, but, wouldn't you be able to access your home computer using USB like you can do with most phones now?
Bob
YES... Check page 69 on the Nexus 7 Guidebook. It tells you how to move files in both directions from your home computer.

Yes, but I wouldn't really worry about any of that because you'll simply root it (it's actually already been rooted over at XDA) and someone will very quickly come up with a pack of drivers as a hack that will enable a lot of that for those that want it. One of the great things about Android is that there are so many talented developers and hackers that create mods and hacks for our devices that anything the manufacturer leaves out is quickly rectified
That's what I'm living for now. The Nexus7 will become my dream machine, in spite of Google's best efforts to cripple it.

It appears that to solve the problems generated by Google, it will be necessary to root this tablet. I for one, am looking forward to it, but have a serious problem. I have never attempted this procedure before on any device. I am hoping and praying that when someone does root the thing, they will be kind enough to write a procedure that can be followed by a noob like me. I can follow a script very well. As long as the person writing the script doesn't assume I know what is happening ahead of time. The type of script I need is one that includes EVERY step, including the mundane things like plug wire (a) into slot (b). Otherwise I am left to my own devices, which usually means I end up ordering pizza and forget about everything else. So, PLEASE, someone root the Nexus 7 and write a procedure that the rest of us simple folk can follow. The world and I, will be forever grateful.

The problem isn't one of no power available at the USB port. They plan on charging the battery from that port. From what i have been reading, a keyboard and mouse can also be used there. Neither of those are passive devices as they both require power to operate. So power is available there. The problem is going to be that Google intentionally crippled the Nexus by not including drivers for the memory cards, hard drives, etc. Interesting that they advertise the thing as being all wonderful, and then it's crippled. I'm not impressed with their decision regarding the drivers. The Chinese rip-off tablets that sell for $60 or so all have the required drivers along with the SD card slot, so it isn't a "cost cutting" decision at all, as the actual costs are minimal. It's them trying to force us to use their other services. The final solution will be to root the device so we can install our own drivers...

The Nexus 7 is much better as follows. Much better display. Great three button soft keys. Fabulous Chrome browser. NO LAG screen response when moving from screen to screen. Faster processor. Vastly improved OS. Forget about any other 7 inch tablet on the market. This puppy is awesome. Google and Android have finally got it right. Want more storage ? Check out Google Drive for server storage via wifi. 5GB FREE, 25GB for $2.50 per month, 100GB for $5 per month.
Let me guess... You work for Google?

Are you sure that you can utilize a USB drive or micro sd as you have suggested? Doesn't the internal software have to be properly configured for that to work? Yes, the internal structure and software must be properly configured for the USB to function. If they aren't however, the proper name for the "USB port" would be "charging socket". (Which i remember someone saying is all it can do.) That however would make the tablet almost completely worthless. The only problem we seem to have is that Google has not put the drivers for external storage in the operating system.
