Nexus 7 General Discussion / Re: Color?
« on: June 29, 2012, 02:39:09 PM »
With this back, it looks like you will only need a screen protector for your 7.

If this actually has the gorilla glass screen, why would it need a screen protector?  Am I missing something?

True.  I guess the cloud is the future...but not one I care about.....

Some people state that the cloud lessens the quality of their music files (?) but I guess Google needed a way to make some money on this device, thus the store, cloud, etc.  Luckily they included the USB or sales would not have been near as good.   No doubt it is a great tablet, but an sd card port and HDMI port would have been a game changer.

I'm with you.  If it is true that the cloud degrades the music, then it probably also compresses the video files.  At that rate it is TOTALLY worthless to me, as it isn't true storage.  Anybody have any thoughts on that subject?

The lack of a sd card slot is bad enough, if they had not included the USB, I would not have ordered it.

Nexus 7 Polls / Re: Do You Plan On Buying The Nexus 7 Tablet?
« on: June 29, 2012, 11:06:05 AM »
the nexus is on par with the iPad 3 and above iPad 2 in my opinion..

I would tend to agree.  This thing will be a Fire killer, and it will surprise me if it doesn't put a serious dent in the iPad sales also.  It doesn't seem like much of a compromise compared to the iPad3.  I have a good friend that owns an iPad3, so will have a chance to do a good head to head comparison. (assuming they ever ship the thing)

Nexus 7 Vs. The Competition / Re: Nexus 7 vs. Galaxy Tab 2 7.0

If I read it right the galaxy has no usb port, that is a killer - I would check on the usb - it is unclear.

Yeah, I had a brain glitch and forgot about that...  The problem is "solved" this way: http://www.cellphoneshop.net/otg.html

Also it's a dual core processor vs. quad core.  For the price I'd go with the Nexus 7 myself.

Yeah, I couldn't resist, and ordered one myself.

I keep hearing people talk about the "better" quad core as compared to the dual core CPU.  In real terms, will we actually see any performance difference in "normal" usage?  I understand it might make a difference for some games that require a high speed device.  Not everybody is into that.  I'm more concerned with browsing the internet and video chatting applications.  Any thoughts?

Nice, but why do they keep referring to this device as a phone?  (pages 15 and 78 for example)

When they did that prior to the release of the device, I was thinking that I could actually use it as a phone.  Doesn't seem to have that feature however...  :(

the galaxy tabs had gps too, just wondering if this will do turn by turn

With the proper app installed, the answer is YES...

I hear you.  I'm not sure the extra speed is as important as the rear camera and the microSD slot.  You actually need to play with BOTH tablets to make that kind of decision.  The Tab sure looks good to me.  :)

So our option is to use a USB adapter to have more memory?  That sounds kinda clumsy, but at least possible.  (Why would Google shoot themselves in the foot like that?)

Since 8 gigs of RAM doesn't cost $50, I'm hoping we will also get bluetooth and an SD card slot for the extra money.  If not, then I'm not sure why I would want one...   :(
