The Lounge: Off Topic Forum / Re: I'm Just Curious (or Maybe Nosy)

Hi Tiny,

I still have my 2nd generation Nexus 7 and use it for reading and sometimes light document creation with a wireless keyboard.  I would like to see Google make another 7 inch tablet but I'm not holding my breath.  As phones got larger and average screen sizes increased, most people use their phablets as tablets.  I guess the best screen to use is the one you have with you at the time.  I still think the movie/tv viewing and document creation on a tablet are better than on a phone. Maybe one day they'll come out with some new feature that becomes the 'killer app' for a tablet form factor.  Interestingly, I see the most common use for tablets these days to be using it as a way for children to keep entertained...playing games, using educational software and watching movies.  I see more young children using tablets than adults.

So many years have gone by and it appears that Google won't be doing another Nexus 7.  I'm wondering how many have replaced their machines with something else?

I don't use a tablet as often as I did four years ago.  I did recently buy an RCA Voyager 7" 16GB Tablet Android 6.0.  When I bought it, I figured it was money down the drain.

I was surprised at the value for the money.

By the way, I still use an old N7 for reading and another as a picture frame.

New Nexus 7 General Discussion Topics (2nd Gen) / Accessing YouTube
« Last post by Rabbit on December 28, 2016, 02:44:17 PM »
When I try to open YouTube I now get a "Problem with network" message.  Before a week or so ago, access has been no problem for the past couple of years.
I can still reach YouTube on my Android cell phone as well as on my MacBook Air, so my home router seems to fine.
Also, everything else on my Tablet seems to be fine; i.e.  email, searches, etc. etc.  Wondering if perhaps re-installing YouTube might be the answer but I don't how to go about that.
Any help?
Thanks,
Rabbit

Google introduced their most powerful Chromecast yet.  The Chromecast Ultra with faster performance, higher quality and most of all full support for 4K Ultra HD and HDR streaming and 4k devices.  Both Netflix and YouTube already offer 4K content and thousands of apps and hundreds of thousands of tv shows and video are available for viewing.  Able to be used either wirelessly connected to your tv through Wifi or through a built-in ethernet adapter for those preferring a wired connection, Chromecast Ultra offers faster performance than any previous Chromecast and supports just about all Android, Apple and Windows devices.  Chromecast Ultra will cost $69, so a bit more than the standard Chromecast which still sells for $35.  The Ultra should be available in the coming weeks.

Well.... The Pixel phones are now here.
77

Rumors are about that Google may be retiring the 'Nexus' brand and instead introduce new phones and tablets under the 'Google Pixel' label.  While two 'Pixel' phones have been rumored for a long time just recently we started to hear about this Nexus 7 update which presumably would be called the Pixel 7 or perhaps the Pixel 7P.   This new tablet is expected to be made by Huawai, the same manufacturer who brought us the Nexus 6P.  Interestingly, the company recently applied for a copyright on the name Nexus 7P, but seeing as how Google has decided to go with the 'Pixel' branding for the new Nexus phones, many are assuming that they will do the same with their tablets, hence Pixel 7P seems a safe bet as the name of the device.  Specs being bandied about include a 7 inch 2560x1440 resolution display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor w/Adreno 530 graphics processing unit, 64GB built-in storage, 4GB of RAM and a 13 MP rear camera.  It is expected to be introduced on October 4th during Google's event in San Francisco and would be the first tablet to run their latest version of the Android operating system code-named 'Nougat'.  So what do you think?  Is this a worthy upgrade that would merit your bucks   Let us know in the comments.

Many of the tech blogs are posting the same rumor(s).  Many are also hinting that it may be rebranded from Nexus to Pixel.  If it is released at a decent price, I'm thinking that I know what will be under my Christmas tree this year.
You bet :)
