Tapatalk Monetization
« on: February 17, 2013, 05:00:13 PM »
You guys seen the post by the Tapatalk admins about monetization of forums by posting ads?

This means we will see random posts advertising stuff.

It enabled by default when the Tapatalk plugin is next updated, so is down to forum admins to disable, or sit back and rack the money in.

The full posting is here.

Further "discussions" here.

CBers,  I have not followed it that closely, but can you just skip over the add, as you do in the web interface at xda developers?

Not sure as I haven't seen any yet ;-)

I assume it'll just be a "sponsored" post in the middle of other posts.

So does the forum or Tapatalk make money from this? I'm OK if its the forum that does but I already paid for Tapatalk too many times.

Thumbs Up to fxsarge for supporting BFM, if he elects to participate in "Tapatalk Monetization". I will add, from personal knowledge, that Rob (BFM) personally funded our forum and others and operates them on minimal revenue from the web based portal. My thinking is that if keeps our forum alive and growing, then I can skip over an "Advertising Post" in Tapatalk.

As long as they're not too intrusive, I don't have an issue either.

We will just have to see what BFM does. I like to support owners of forums but I feel that they should try to support the site with advertising. Not donations. Not membership fees. Just advertising. Site sponsors also help like if we had a rep from sedio cases or something like that.

This is the first I've heard of these inserted ads or posts from Tapatalk.  I'll have to look into it and see what it's all about. Usually with any of these ad monetization schemes whether Google adsense, viglink or others, the income is a split between the forum owner and the company providing the ads.  Are these ads supposed to show up on the actual forum or only in Tapatalk?  Again I'll have to do some more research and find out what they're actually doing.

BFM, have you considered setting up a PayPal account for the forum and accepting donations?  Running a forum can get to be pretty expensive.  I for one would pay (as long as you didn't tell my Mrs.)
I used to be crazy until I found out that insane pays more.

Where am I?  What am I doing in this handbasket?

I love this forum and support it whole heartedly but from what I have read these ads are extremely intrusive, personally I'd rather donate to a forum than see ads.

I actually find it offensive that Tapatalk has done this, I paid for Tapatalk and Tapatalk HD so why should I see advertisements on forums I frequent through Tapatalk. I understand its at a forums discretion and gain but still....
