If you are concerned about transfering content to your Nexus 7, you can relax. The Nexus 7 will support MTP, which allows you to connect the tablet to you PC or MAC with a USB cable and have the Nexus 7 show up a drive in your file explorer. Then you can transfer movies, music, books, ect with ease. The following is shown on page 69 of the Nexus 7 Guide.

The Nexus 7 Guide can be seen Here.

Connect to a Windows computer via USB
You can use a USB cable to connect your tablet to a Windows
computer and transfer music, pictures, and other files in both directions.
This connection uses the MTP protocol, which is supported
by most recent versions of Windows.
If you are using USB tethering, you must turn that off before you
can use USB to transfer files between your tablet and computer.
When you connect your tablet to the USB port on your computer,
its USB storage is mounted as a drive and appears on your computer
screen. You can now copy files back and forth as you would
using any other external device.
When you’re finished, simply disconnect the tablet by unplugging
the USB cable.
To turn USB tethering on or off, go to Settings >
Wireless & networks > More > Tethering & portable
hotspot.
To change your tablet’s USB connection options, go
to Settings > Device > Storage > Menu > USB computer
connection.
Settings

I'm new to Android and tablets.
Just got a Nexus7 for my 12 year old daughter's birthday trying to get it set up ahead of time.
No problems with the wifi, but can't get the usb connection to computer to recognize.
Have downloaded the pdf of the Nexus7 Guidbook.

To change your tablet’s USB connection options, go
to Settings > Device > Storage > Menu > USB computer
connection.

Settings

The bold section does not show on the Nexus.
When I plug in to the computer, I get the "New found device Wizard" showing a "Nexus", but I then get the bubble saying the hardware failed to install and may not work properly.
The extra drive or storage device does not show in "My Computer"

Computer is XPPro SP3 with the latest updates and MS Media Player11 which has the Mpt drivers supposedly for the Nexus.
Computer runs flawlessly and never a bit of problem with countless usb devices, but the wizard never pops up, just the bubble alerting that they have been installed.
Any ideas?

When you come to 'Storage' screen you'll see 3 lil dots up in the top-right corner.  That's the 'Menu'.

I think you need to follow the steps in the how to root your N7 thread to install the proper drivers.

Your setting under settings/storage should be set to MTP. Then if your computer has the latest version of Media Player, your Nexus 7 should be recognized as a MTP device and show up as Nexus 7, when you plug in the USB cable.

Thanks for all the replies.

Ended up being a really stupid error on my part. I was distracted while doing this and and just downloaded MediaPlayer and did not install it.
Once Player was installed it worked perfectly without having to do anything in the tablet.
Can't check any other advice now, since it is gift wrapped for her bday.
Glad it works with xp, her box is xp too.

I'm going to have to do a basic learn on the android system, didn't know about the 3 dots, can't even close the extra tabs in chrome.  :-[

Closing Chrome Tabs: there's a small "X" in the right side of all tabs, click the "X" to close the tab(s). AFAIK, each tab has to be closed individually, there is no global close function.
