Connecting Your Nexus 7 to an external monitor or HDTV
« on: May 27, 2013, 08:38:12 AM »
The Nexus 7 does not come with a HDMI port and the Google Dock does not have HDMI out either. MHL adapters are another option, but the USB port on our Nexus 7 does not support MHL. There is rumored HDMI capability with the pogo pins on our Nexus 7, but I have yet to see a working adapter. Although there are many devices sold on the internet claiming to be MHL adapters for the Nexus 7, I have yet to hear of one that actually works. If your HDTV is an internet TV you can use the App, iMediaShare from the Google Play Store, that I have heard works well, but I have not actually used. Your other option is the Nexus 10, which does have a HDMI out port, which I can verify, works quite well. If anyone finds a workable solution for connecting your Nexus 7 to an external monitor or HDTV, please post your experience.

The four pogo pins are a common ground, charging voltage, and l/r audio. No video.

Is mhl a software or hardware implementation?

A MHL adapter plugs into a USB port that supports MHL, providing HDMI output and simultaneous charging of your device and negates the need for an HDMI port and allows the vendor to sell you an accessory. My HTC Flyer has a MHL usb port.
