being new to android     what if any are the advantages of 4.1.2 over 4.1.1

4.1.2 was a minor update, most notably adding the ability for the Nexus 7 to add a landscape launcher.  This will now support home screen rotation.  The other changes are behind the scenes, mainly related to power management, but will not be plainly obvious.

It also adds single finger swipe expansion of expandable notifications but as arborij has said the more important ones are under the hood including bug fixes.

Can you use Wigs to flash stock, reroot, then flash new?  That usually works, especially because the boot loader typically stays unlocked.

Why? I've rooted 4.1.2 with the Toolkit, have you undated to the latest version of the Nexus Root Toolkit?

Unless you have a hardware issue, driver issue I believe There is a solution. Wugfresh will work if you take the time to figure out where during the process the chain is breaking.

There is a wealth of information here. BFM, Prime, JJ. etc..have spent hours explaining in great detail how to manipulate this wonderful device. Saying that Wugfresh is "no help" is an ignorant statement.

I apologize.  I did not intend to make an ignorant statement.  The problem I am having is this with Version 1.5.4.  I check the root box with custom recovery either checked or unchecked.  The scripts seem to work just fine but at the end when I run SuperSU it shows no apps configured and no logs available and it does not prompt to change the binaries.  When I run Root Checker it says I am not rooted.  That's why I made the ignorant statement. 

I got unrooted when I upgraded to 4.1.2 from 4.1.1 because I had not installed to OTA app that prevents unrooting. 

It was not my intent to offend anyone or diminish the efforts of those who I agree have been helpful.  The reason I made my statement is because the scripts all seemed to work (no errors) yet when I ran SuperSU as prescribed at the end of the scripts it does not prompt me to update the binaries.

In SuperSU settings I have Superuser enabled, Re-authentication and Show notifications checked. v0.96.

need some help--every time i attempt to update to 4.1.2 i get an error with build prop and the update zip itself. i had made original copies of build prop before doing the mod to it i.e 160 and rotation. renamed the mod file and copied the original back to the system folder. tried with cwm and adb. both results the same.

You're probably better backing up your apps and restoring the factory image, then performing an update. You might even get a hold of the 4.1.2 image, and flash that directly with the toolkit.

Apologies all the way around, now let's move on. You can try birdsastrompgman's build.prop, but if you have lost root, you have lost the ability to write to \system, so I fear this is your problem restoring your saved file. You also have the option to use Version 1.5.4 to restore a stock rom and the root again with 1.5.4 or as an alternative try the "Nexus 7 Toolkit" at XDA Here. It was recently updated to support 4.1.2 so it may give you a fix and it gives you the option to restore a stock rom as well and mskip is actively supporting it.
