will not update to 4.1.2
« on: November 16, 2012, 03:01:36 PM »
Hi!,
For some time now I have been receiving a notification saying I had an update. I am assuming this is the 4.1.2 update. Every time I try to apply it the update fails. It will download about halfway and the I get the icon of the droid with a red triangle. I have even gone so far as to reset the tablet back to stock and try it. After that failed I installed Clockworkmod and tried to install it that way. Again it will start to apply the update then it will fail to install.I am rooted I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hello. If rooted. I would download and install Root keeper OTA and use it to backup SU . I would thn download the update and then flash it using a recovery like twrp or CWM.

Go to settings > about tablet > build number.  The build number will tell us what Android OS you're running (JR003C, JR003D, JZ054K, etc.).  If you've flashed different ROMs or modified any system files, the OS upgrade will fail.  You have to be running the correct build for the next update to work.  JR003D (4.1.1) to upgrade to OS 4.1.2, for example.

This has been happening since the 4.1.2 update started. My build number is jroo3d(4.1.1). I am thinking about unrooting it. I have clockworkmod and have tried installing it that way but it will not work. I have not flashed any roms but I am not sure if any system files have been modified. Also when I try to force an OTA update it boots into CWM. Before I reset it I had romtoolbox lite installed. I had adjusted my screen resolution with it. After I read somewhere that could be the problem I reset it back to original size. I do not remember making any other adjustments. I thought that resetting it would put it back to factory specs.

Resetting the screen resolution alters the build.prop file. You need to find the build.prop.bak file, move or delete the build.prop file, and rename build.prop.bak to build.prop (

I suggest flashing the factory image and starting from scratch, it will wipe the whole of your device so backup first but you you will be able to apply both updates then.
I got my 32GB N7 yesterday and it came with Android 4.1.1, I rooted it with NRT v1.5.5, installed Vodoo OTA RootKeeper, backed up su with RootKeeper, updated to 4.1.2, then to 4.2 and restored my root with Vodoo OTA RootKeeper.

I think you should follow JJ s advice. It sounds like you were in similar situations.

So far so good. Flashed stock and updated to 4.2 . I did install voodoo rootkeeper and backed up but I didnt know how to restore the back up. I and rooting with rootkit 1.5.5. My screen seems to be stuck in twrp. I haev a notification on my computer saying " waiting for device to finish booting back up ..." How long should this take? It has been at least 6 minutes or more that this one step has been in process. I cut it short one time before but when I rebooted my nexus superuser and another app it told me to look for werent there.

Rooted before you used Rootkeeper correct?
I think you were not rooted and tried to use Root keeper. Other way around.

I was definitely rooted before. I am not sure why now when I try to root it gets stuck. I let it run for an hour and it never finished. I also made sure I had usb debugging turned on. The new way under 4.2

NRT usually informs you if there are any issues, can't be sure why without more info.
As for Vodoo OTA RootKeeper, did you open and backup su? If so then you need to open again and Restore root.

When I flashed back to stock I lost Voodoo. I reinstalled it and pressed restore root and it tells me root su restored but when I try to run apps like adfree they tell me they are unable to gert root. As far as NRT goes it gets to the part whee it is waiting for my device to reboot and stays there. I let it run overnight and it was still in the same position.

I think your problem is when you flash a factory image your are wiping the whole device so Voodoo's backed up "su" is also wiped.

What I would do is flash factory image 4.1.2, root with NRT.
Install Voodoo OTA RootKeeper and backup "su", by now you should have notification of the update so confirm update and let it install.
Once update is complete, open Voodoo OTA RootKeeper and restore root.
