Why no Itunes app on play yet?
« on: December 02, 2012, 10:21:46 AM »
Just trying to get me head around why no app for Itunes yet?. I assume its Apple threatening some legal thing on people writing apps so they can listen to legally bought Itunes purchases on their non Apple players but how does that work with Windows tablets?.
I assume windows tablets such as the Surface (if they can be described as such?) can run Itunes and therefore listen to songs bought from Itunes and played on a non Apple player so why not players such as Androids, Nexus etc??. How come Apple are ok with Windows players but not others? I`ve had no luck removing the DRM from my audiobooks bought from Itunes so I can play them on my Nexus so on a bit of a downer with Apple at the moment!
Best
Steve

Windows rt tablets cannot run iTunes. Just use Google music manger on your PC. It uploads everything to the cloud including iTunes for your device.

Thanks for that I had no idea Google could do that, shame it requires credit card details though!

Steve Jobs is quoted to have said that you will never see iTunes for Android. But then, he is also quoted as saying that you will never see an iPad Mini.   ;D 8) :P

IMO, as the Android share of the market continues to grow, it will reach a level that Apple can no longer ignore the profit potential. Money does make for strange bedfellows, as the saying goes.

Because Apple is evil.

I used to be an apple guy... had a macbook, multiple Ipods...

I finally got tired of paying their luxury brand prices. To be fair, for years, they were head and shoulders above the rest. Android has finally caught, and in some ways surpassed them.

But it was DRM that really hacked me off. I got my first smartphone , an Android (because of price, and lack of a 4g Iphone at the time), and was hacked to find that all the Itunes music I had bought (quite a bit over the last 10 years) will not work on it.

I wrote Apple customer service, and was invited to pay about $500 to upgrade it all to ITunes Plus. I told them to go to hell, and that I would never buy an apple product again. I sold my Ipod the very next day.

I then spent about 4 nights in a row burning all my Itunes music to CD's, and reimporting it. That circumvents the DRM. Have you tried that for your audiobooks?

The problem is your interpretation of DRM, is it Digital Rights Management or Damn Right its Mine, because I paid for it so let me use it on any device I own without outside control.

Haven`t had the Nexus long and still working out the available apps I want yet. I assume once I do that then I`ll be able to use the Cloud?

Yeah. Once you sign into Google play and come across the first app you want to buy it will ask for a credit card. I've never had any issues and they have had mine for 2 years. So once you save one you should be good to go.

I didn't think they would need one to use their cloud service but they have always had mine so I'm not sure.

Yes tried that and kept getting messages about protected files, even tried some long drawn out tutorials off youtube, end result was the same, seems to me that Apple are missing a trick here because when I used Itunes it worked fine and I would have been happy to carry on using it with my Nexus  :'(

I'd be willing to wager that there will be an iTunes app for the N7 when Apple realizes they are missing out on a profit center.  When that day gets here, I'd make another wager the app won't be on my N7.  Apple, Sony and Electronic Arts don't get any of my money.
I used to be crazy until I found out that insane pays more.

Where am I?  What am I doing in this handbasket?
